Namaste India Supermarket — Local services in Ontario

Today, I had the joy of finding mace spice at Namaste Indian Supermarket in Kingston. This was no easy task, as I’d gone to every supermarket and bulk store in Kingston and for some reason, vendors are not carrying it this year. Perhaps they consider it expensive to carry and that most people nowadays don’t know about it. When you do a lot of Christmas baking as I do, mace spice is part of your arsenal. It’s the orange skin around the whole nutmeg and has a very subtle and distinct flavor – different from nutmeg itself. Call me old-fashioned, but I appreciate these subtle differences. I was discouraged and frustrated not to find mace locally.

Anyway, a friend told me she and her husband had gone to Namaste Indian Supermarket and found all kinds of ingredients and spices at very reasonable prices; she was confident I’d find what I was looking for there. So…I took a chance and went. A kind lady who worked there said ‘Yes, we do carry mace, both whole and ground.’ I couldn’t believe it! With the ground mace in hand, I took the opportunity to walk around the store’s aisles and found this place amazing. Lovely shop! First, I just have to tell you about the wonderful staff person who assisted me. I went in looking for fenugreek leaves and when I asked him, he literally ran to the back to pick out fresh ones that had just arrived and presented me with a gorgeous, fresh bunch. Then, he helped me find the other spices I was looking for. What a kind and helpful person. This shop is well organized, well stocked and has so many more things I can't wait to explore and try next. Being new to cooking Indian foods, I know I will receive continue to receive excellent assistance and advice at Namaste....
