Why I gave this restaurant 3 stars. We order from here about once a week. We live about 5 minutes (maybe 6-7 minutes) away but the delivery service is terrible. While the food is good, it's still inconsistent. We've ordered delivery via their website many times because we want as much of the proceeds to go to them as opposed to a 3rd part app. The delivery time is significantly slower than using a 3rd party app. If it's convenient, it is much more reasonable to pick it up as opposed to delivery. You also save 10% which is better than nothing.
When we moved to Ottawa we used to love this restaurant. The food was consistently great and delivery was within a reasonable time or 30-45 minutes, sometimes earlier. Today we were estimated 90 minutes for delivery and at 100 minutes I decided to call but to only be informed that it'll be another 20-30 minutes. Over 2 hours is a long time to wait for food. We will most likely try elsewhere next time.
Update: we received our food after a...
Read moreBrother Chiu's have always been my go-to over the past couple years since my move to Ottawa.
I've never physically visited this restaurant, it has always been take-out via UberEats & DoorDash. Their quality is consistent, portion is generous, and is next to the closest authentic Chinese food I can find in my area!
What led me to leaving this review was because of the Boiled Spicy Fish Filet I ordered tonight. I regularly used to order this traditional dish from Spicy Ho Ho, but recently noticed they no longer include the clear noodles inside it. I called into this restaurant before placing my order and the girl confirmed they could add it into the dish, while the other place pretty much said too bad. I’ve never finished the entire dish before because the portion is huge, but it’s actually SO good from this place that I will ONLY order it from here from now on!
If you're looking for a Chinese / HK style food for dinner in Ottawa, I highly recommend giving this...
Read moreSad to say that the food quality at Brother Chiu’s has really declined. It used to be our preferred spot in the neighborhood for Chinese food, but after several negative experiences, we decided to give it one last go…and it’ll be the last time we go back.
Formerly, the chicken fried rice was some of the best we’ve had. Portion sizes were great (enough for 2 full meals easily from one combination plate). Food was always fresh and appealing looking. The last few times we’ve gone, the fried rice has had little to no flavor, the chicken balls have tasted like fish twice, and portion sizes have gone down. We used to be able to count on being content with what we ordered, but now it’s a gamble.
I will give the restaurant credit for offering a 10% discount for pick up orders, as well as a great selection on the menu. Unfortunately these bonuses don’t really make up for the inconsistency in...
