We picked our favourite icecream shop to celebrate my Birthday with friends and family. The first group reached at 7:30 and the girl at the counter told us they will be closing at 9:00pm, so we decide to wait for everyone to join - group of 17. We started ordering at around 7:52, with an hour to go according to the information provided earlier. Just as we were ordering, another lady comes in from inside and tells her colleague in the front that she should inform us that they close in 8 minutes. One of us even suggested that they could start making the orders as and when we ordered to speed the process - but apparently they have to get the complete order before starting the icecream assembly. So we all place our order and waited at the tables for our icecream to be ready. As we were placing the last order we were asked to check all the orders , we politely denied as we wanted to respect the closing time - 8:00pm. There was a mixup with the order and couple of orders left out- which is understandable at the end of the day. My husband even politely accepted the wrong order, as we chose not to re-check. We were all just waiting for the final orders to step out, when my husband was asked to pay for the two orders that was missed - having paid for the initial bulk order plus a generous tip. He had dripping icecream on his hands and asked for two minutes - when he was told to pay and get out. That’s when he questioned if this the way they treat customers, to which she further rudely responded. At that point my husband was definitely upset and another customer out of nowhere , without any clue of what had happened decided to record him(brother at-least try and get the context before you just decide to record someone- half baked information is misleading). All said and done, unfortunately this is our last visit to our past favourite ice-cream shop. All you needed to do is be polite to your customers! It could have made someone’s special day more special and this review would have looked...
Read moreI've seen Chocolat Favouris for a while, but never got to try it out. We finally decided to this past weekend. Honestly, I feel like something might have been off with this location that weekend because if this experience was typical, I don't know why this chain is so popular.
We went in for ice cream, but I ended up buying a small package of chocolate covered malt balls as well. They were fine, though the chocolate was so thick, it kind of overpowered the malt. These likely aren't made in-store, so that's not their fault.
The major problem was the ice cream. We all ordered vanilla cones with various dips on them. The ice cream has a consistency such as to indicate it had a higher than normal fat content. This isn't itself a problem as while it makes it less healthy (like you're getting dipped ice cream to be healthy anyway), it often does enhance the flavour. The problem is, this ice cream didn't taste like anything. It literally had no flavour. Compared to Dairy Queen or even McDonald's, it was very obvious. The dips weren't bad, but were layered on so thick that in combination with the high fat content ice cream, it just made it incredibly heavy.
I finished my regular size cone, but felt gross for a while afterwards. My girlfriend couldn't get more than halfway through her small one and ended up throwing it out. I noticed that when she did, the garbage can was full of half-eaten cones so this clearly wasn't just us. We could have gone in and complained I suppose, but we didn't feel great and just decided to go home.
Like I said, I feel this must be an abnormality because I don't know why so many people would get ice cream here, for so many to just throw them out half finished. I might try it again some day to confirm if this is the case, but my girlfriend never wants to go back. The reviews here definitely don't reflect my experience so I hope I'm wrong, but this is how it...
Read moreOur first family trip here and we ordered 4 ice creams; small Hazelnut Praline with Kooky, a small Salted Caramel with Kooky, small Cookies and Cream dipped chocolate with Kooky, and a baby sized Cotton Candy with Kooky. "What the heck is a Kooky?" one might ask. The Kooky is the topper that goes with that specific themed (flavoured) ice cream. Sadly, it is an extra cost, which we thought wasn't worth the extra price, so we won't order it next visit. We think the Kooky should be included as these ice creams are very expensive ($27 for 4 ice creams). However, the chocolate coating is very thick and the cone is practically a piece of art. Despite the high price, it is worth a once a year splurge or special occasion!
For an adult, the small sized ice cream is actually way too much for the tastebuds because it so rich and sweet, it almost became sickly towards the end for all of us...even the kids! We highly recommend getting a mini sized cone which will also bring the cost down.
The chocolate here is excellent. My husband purchased one advent calandar for the whole family at Christmas. This is also pricey, but there are 4 pieces of delicious high quality chocolate for the family on each day. We have also purchased the mini chocolate bars; mint, orange, and plain chocolate which are amazingly delicious and a much cheaper choice!!! Definitely worth the treat once in a while. We will be back and would recommend to friends and family. Go ahead and spoil yourself or someone else!
Btw, the new Barrhaven location is very clean when entering. The bathrooms were also clean. Staff was...
