When they opened this store a few years back, I was very satisfied with the price of the items & the quality of produce (fruits and veggies) was as excellent as I desired to visit this store on a regular basis - now it's acceptable but not exceptional anymore compared to other Asian markets in town, especially, considering the price tags they have at H Mart. I have to say the quality of meat at the butcher section is still slightly better. They seem to know how to clean and package the meat to look good, however, I find the price is too high and it makes them much less desirable. They used to rotate the meat fast too to 'On sale' section, which is in one of the open lid freezers, in order to keep only super fresh ones in the regular price area but they don't rotate them as often. It seems that they keep them with the regular price tags longer, not sure. Yohan on #3 Rd. and new TNT in Lansdowne Centre, they really stepped up in the game. H Mart Richmond will need to do extensive and competitive market research on a regular basis to stay improved. It already has been for months that I merely visit there to get items that I can get from H Mart only when I am around that area otherwise, I really don't go there no more. I know lots of our family friends...
Read moreNot particularly impressed with the prices for most of their imported goods. While the selection is pretty good, you’ll probably get better prices at T&T for most of the things like miso paste or frozen food. The only thing is T&T won’t have things like gochugaru (Korean chilli powder used for stuff like kimchi and stews) or seaweed, or giant tubs of gochujang (let alone ssamjang for your wraps). T&T also has a bigger K-beauty section (at least compared to this particular H-Mart branch).
That being said if you know what to buy and what to avoid, things are pretty affordable. The prepared food and fast food here is a hidden gem as you can get a gimbap for under $4 which is much cheaper than any sushi roll. They also sell lots of ready to cook stews (broth and add-ons are separated) so you can save a few bucks by buying that instead of eating out. While T&T is starting to up their game in the Korean snack department, there are some that you’ll only really find at H-mart.
This H-mart branch also has that BBQ Chicken (it’s actually Korean fried chicken) stall right at the back that has small...
Read moreProduce is old and onions are literally rotting on the stand at most times when I have to buy something from here in a pinch. There are flies aplenty all over the produce section. The green onions are pale green and wilted at the ends, I basically gave up buying produce here because Superstore has mucb fresher vegetables any day of the week. One the things I noticed is that anything that's not Korean is priced noticably higher than T&T which is literally down the block. A 2L bottle of Coca-Cola or other related products runs from $3.50 to $4.00. I figure Coca-Cola is a pretty good measure on how the pricing here compares to pretty much any grocer out there. Any teas, snacks or convienience items are unreasonably high. I only give them 2 stars because their seafood is priced reasonably and is somewhat fresh. Otherwise the store is in poor conditions with very narrow walk ways in the produce section. If you have someone restocking the lettuce, they'll have to move their cart just to get buy and they view YOU as the inconvenience. It's a place that is not welcoming nor very well thought...
