The old Chinese male server with glasses did not look approachable; he did not make us feel welcomed. When I told him I wanted the sweetened tofu pudding, he had his back facing me and he took the tofu pudding from the fridge and poured the water out from the plastic container. No one would do that because there is always water with tofu; you cannot clear out the water from tofu. He obviously did not need to do that unless he did not want us to have the water from the tofu.
Then he said the tofu pudding was not sweetened and he asked me for the kind of sugar syrup. I said ginger sugar syrup. Later, I found out that there was residue inside the container of ginger sugar syrup; I did not know what it was. It was gross. I told him I wanted the yellow bean pudding and he took it out from the fridge. Then he started to search for the tools to cut the pudding. I did not know if the tray and the knife for cutting the pudding were hygienic.
Moreover, they did not have the chocolate tofu and the papaya tofu even though they were on the menu. When I asked him for two spoons, he did not answer me and went away. Then he asked me again. In general, he was ignoring customers when customers wanted to talk to him. He just talked to customers whenever he wanted. That was not customer service.
In terms of their products, the texture and the taste of their tofu pudding were similar to the Sunrise tofu at the supermarket but the Sunrise one is half the price. The melon tofu pudding tasted stale because the top coat was chewy. The yellow bean pudding was inferior as well - they had bits of yellow beans instead of the whole yellow beans in the pudding and they used excess flour for the pudding. It was disappointing because this was a specialty store for tofu.
Overall, this place is overpriced...
Read moreIt's rare to see a true hole in the wall, small family business these days! Stopped by with my HK born and raised mama and she approves. Definitely good for the older relatives that appreciate a "not too sweet" dessert! Staff were friendly and seems everything is made in house
They have lots of variety in toppings and it can be served hot or cold. We both tried the red bean topped cold tofu dessert. Just a note the red bean seems to be unsweetened but they provide table-side sugar/syrup for dine in! Our bowls were $8 each. Portions of red bean were generous.
Seems to be a better deal to take it to go as you can get a whole ice cream bucket of tofu dessert for like $20! They have smaller sizes as well ranging from $7.5 up! They sell ginger syrup and regular white sugar syrup on the side too. Would be great for family dinners/potlucks! They also sell other things such as mango pudding and guilinggao but we didn't try those this time.
Parking can be a bit tricky in the plaza (store is right next to Lido), but easily accessible from Aberdeen...
Read moreWe came here for a snack and opted for their tofu puddings. Their menu has a variety of items and combinations available to suit many different taste buds.
I liked that they offer a few types of sugar and ginger syrups to sweeten your dessert with, though you do have to use quite a bit of it as their products are on the bland side. The tofu pudding was soft and delicate with not too much liquid. I felt that the red bean topping to tofu ratio was off though, and would have been better with more red bean. The red beans were also rather tasteless, maybe to offset the sweetness from the syrup you add yourself.
Overall, it's not too bad for the price but fell short compared to other places I've been to. It would have been better if the natural flavours of each ingredient was more pronounced instead of your whole bowl of dessert just tasting like your...
