I am always looking for new experiences and sensations in the city. I am not interested in the usual tourist attractions or the mundane routines of everyday life. I want to explore the hidden corners and the diverse cultures of the urban landscape. That is why I decided to visit the Galleria Supermarket in Scarborough, a place that promised to offer me a taste of Korea in Canada.

The Galleria Supermarket is a large and modern store that sells a variety of Korean products, from food and drinks to cosmetics and household items. It is located in a busy and lively area, surrounded by other shops and restaurants. As I entered the store, I was greeted by a colorful and inviting display of fruits and vegetables, some of which I had never seen before. I was curious to try the dragon fruit, the persimmon, and the Korean pear, which looked juicy and sweet.

I continued to wander around the store, admiring the different sections and the abundance of choices. I was impressed by the quality and the freshness of the meat and the seafood, which were neatly arranged and well-packaged. I was also intrigued by the variety of snacks and candies, which ranged from spicy and savory to sweet and sour. I picked up a few items that caught my eye, such as the honey butter chips, the seaweed crackers, and the rice cakes.

I was also fascinated by beauty products, which claimed to have natural and beneficial ingredients.

I ended my visit at the bakery, where I was tempted by the aroma of freshly baked breads and pastries. I could not resist buying a red bean bun, a custard cream bread, and a cheese cake, which looked soft and fluffy. I decided to enjoy them at the nearby park, where I could relax and savor the flavors of Korea.

This Supermarket was a delightful and surprising discovery for me. It was a place where I could satisfy my curiosity and my appetite and discover new and delicious things. Galleria in my experience has really been a hit or a miss. Some days the staff are friendly, other days the staff is incredibly rude. The dishes vary; some are amazing, and others taste very bad.

If you come during a weekend, they usually have samples throughout the store that allow you to try the products they sell.

They have an end of day sale that usually starts at 7pm with a 20% (sashimi; the discount does not decrease after that) or 30% off sticker on certain sushi and packaged food items. For the sushi and select packaged food the sale increases to 50% off at 9pm.

I do enjoy some items on the order menu: The fish roe soup is one of my favourites. It tastes amazing. The pork cutlet dish was overly dry and tasted bland, definitely would not order again. The sweet and sour pork was good but it was drowning in sauce, we had to purchase another rice to even it out! The Korean ramen dish was very big, I felt that it didn't have enough noodles and was overly salty, but otherwise it was yummy and tasted home made. The black sauce noodle is always a big portion and tastes good. The dumplings can be bought packaged and pre-made or they can be ordered to be made fresh. The fresh ones are really yummy. The bibimbap in a hot stone pot was the worst dish I ever ordered here. The rice was extremely mushy and wet, it was put into the stone pot from a rice cooker and was still overly soggy! The toppings are unappetizing and do not taste good. This dish was absolutely horrible and it was not worth paying a bit extra for the stone pot because they did not cook it in...

In contrast to the food court at Yonge and Steeles, where patrons place orders at individual counters, the Galleria food court operates with a more streamlined system. Orders are placed via two self-serve kiosks on the periphery, and the food is collected from three designated stations. During our visit, we ordered the Dahmi Seafood Udon, Jajangmyeon Black Bean Noodles, and Bulgogi Bibimbap. The wait time for our meal was approximately 15 minutes.

The cuisine is both authentic and freshly prepared, with generous portions that justify the slightly elevated yet still reasonable prices. The broth for the udon was aromatic, and the noodles themselves were delightfully chewy and fresh.

The menu features a variety of options, including fried chicken, taiyaki, street food, and bentos, all available in both freshly prepared and pre-cooked forms.

Although the food court was not particularly crowded during our visit, the limited seating may pose a challenge during peak hours, potentially making it difficult to secure a table.
