ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED!!! THEY SERVED US SPOILED CHICKEN!! If I could give this place ZERO stars, I would! I pass this restaurant every day on my way to work! My fiance and I live about two blocks away.
Growing up in scarborough, we grew up with the best Hakka food and decided to give this spot a try. Boy, we're we disappointed!
We ordered 3 dishes; Chilli shrimp, sweet and sour Manchurian chicken and tandoori chicken fried rice. The sweet and sour chicken came first and alone. It was completely tasteless, not even a bit sweet.
Then came the tandoori chicken fried rice. From time it arrived at our table, I got a whif of a rank smell but wasn't sure where it came from. My fiance had taken out fried rice for himself, and then served me afterwords. First few bites were great! Until I ate a piece of chicken. And there was the rank taste! I stopped my fiance and asked him to smell the chicken because I think its bad. He took a bite and had to spit it out. He knew instantly that it was spoiled! We told the server who said she would go to the kitchen and confirm. We sat there and waited. She then returned about 15 mins later and asked to take the dish to the kitchen along with our two plates. She then returned another 15 mins later with a fresh plate of fried rice and apologized profusely for the bad batch.
The new batch smelled better. It tasted better. At this point however, we had completely lost our appetite as we had EATEN the spoiled chicken.
My fiance had then asked the host at the front to speak to a manager about our experience. He was exceptionally upset as I'm 5 months pregnant. The host then replied that we can speak directly to him about our issues. I explained that it was not his fault but someone was definitely to blame and so I would really like to speak with the manager. Then he says 'I am the manager'. So we explain to him how upset we were about being served spoiled food. He kept repeating the same thing over and over again. 'I'm so sorry. But the new one is good, right?' He said he would take the fried rice off the bill as compensation but I felt that that was the bare minimum. I'm obviously not paying for being served spoiled food. I didn't ask for a fresh batch. Nobody asked us what we would like. They just put a new batch in front of us as if that made it better. I didn't even get to try the shrimp because of how sick i was to my stomach!
After asking for further compensation, the host walked away and returned with a different man who now says HE is the manager. This man was completely disrespectful and unprofessional. He would not stop laughing and tried to tell us that the chicken was not spoiled. He said the smell and taste was due to the tandoori masala they use to cook the chicken. We asked if they used the same tandoori masala in the new batch and he said yes. So why would it stink rank the first batch and not the second? And why would they even make a second batch if nothing was wrong with the first. This man was just talking in circles and nothing he said made sense! This made my fiance even more upset as he did not even take responsibility but instead attempted to insult our intelligence.
I had high hopes for this place but am utterly disappointed. I will never return and would highly discourage anyone else from choosing this establishment. They should have food inspectors raiding their kitchen. Disgusting. Next time I want hakka I'm just going to Federick.
ALSO, my fiance and I could not stop running to the washroom a few hours later. So please, tell me again the food was not...
Read moreMy recent visit to Hakka Khazana was nothing short of a disaster, leaving much to be desired from what was supposed to be a special celebration. Despite having booked the main hall well in advance for a significant party, we were unceremoniously relegated to the basement upon arrival. This switch not only blindsided us but also compromised the privacy and ambiance we had anticipated for our event. The basement setting felt more like an afterthought, lacking the care and attention we expected for our gathering.
The culinary experience further compounded our disappointment. In what can only be described as a glaring oversight in service, our appetizers and main courses were served simultaneously. This not only cluttered our already limited table space but also disrupted the dining flow, making it impossible to enjoy each course as intended. The charm of anticipating a well-paced meal was lost, replaced by a rushed and confusing dining experience.
The lack of privacy in the basement, combined with the jarring service missteps, significantly detracted from our enjoyment of the evening. It’s disheartening to witness such a lack of consideration for guests, especially when hosting a significant event that demands careful attention to detail and atmosphere. Our experience was a letdown, and it’s with regret that I find myself unable to recommend their services for any...
Read moreFood was great. We ordered hot & sour soup, tandoori chicken momos, Manchurian eggplant & chicken, and shrimp/chicken/egg fried rice.
Service definitely needs improvement. I kept making eye contact with the server, who then walked by without acknowledging me multiple times. They also never checked in on us and didn't remove the cleared dishes from our table until we asked them to. I had ordered additional food for takeout, which ended up taking a long time to get to me because it wasn't communicated that it was for my table. I saw one of the servers carrying my takeout to the front of the restaurant 10 minutes before receiving it using 1/2 plastic bag handles and swinging it back and forth like a child heading to the park. Lastly, the seating logic could have been executed better. There were enough empty tables to comfortably place guests in a spaced-out manner but for some reason most guests were being seated at the tables next to one another.
This place has potential, but definitely requires more attention to detail and perhaps some better serving training in order to get out of its own...
