Tiny Otters Playspace is a beautifully designed and thoughtfully created indoor play space. My 2 year old absolutely loved it. The environment feels safe, the equipment is engaging, and everything looks clean and well maintained. It is a great place for toddlers and preschoolers to explore, play, and have fun.
There are a few things parents should be aware of, especially if you are bringing younger children. Sometimes older kids end up playing in areas clearly intended for infants and toddlers, such as the ball pit or the crawling zones. Unfortunately, many parents are not actively supervising their children, and that can create safety issues. For example, there were two older kids roughly 9 years old who repeatedly sprinted and jumped into the ball pit without looking. At one point, my two year old was already inside, and this type of behaviour could have seriously hurt a smaller child. They did this multiple times throughout the visit. In another incident, one of the 9 year olds jumped over my 2 year old nephew, accidentally kicked him, and caused him to fall and hurt his lip and tooth.
Because of this, I would say that the space is ideally suited for children up to about age 6 or 7. Beyond that, the equipment and layout may not be appropriate for older, more active children, especially when younger toddlers are also present. Keeping the age range more limited would help maintain a safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone.
As someone who works in healthcare, I also noticed a hygiene concern that is worth pointing out. Shoes and sandals are not allowed inside, including in the washroom. This means parents and children go in wearing only socks, then walk back out into the play area. Considering there are crawling zones where little ones use their hands and often put their hands in their mouths, this is not the most sanitary setup. While the washroom itself was not dirty, walking in and out with the same socks is still not ideal.
One suggestion would be to provide a few pairs of indoor use sandals or slippers near the washroom entrance for both children and adults. That way, everyone has something clean to wear in the washroom and can leave the sandals by the door afterward. It is a simple addition that could make a big difference in keeping things more hygienic.
Something else that was worth mentioning in a positive way is that staff were visibly active in cleaning the space throughout the visit. As messes built up from children playing and eating, staff were regularly wiping surfaces, tidying toys, and keeping the area safe and organized. That kind of attention to cleanliness makes a real difference, especially in a space used by so many young children.
Overall, I do recommend Tiny Otters. It is a great concept with a lot of potential, and most kids will have a fantastic time. Just make sure to supervise your children closely, especially if they are very young, to help keep the environment safe and enjoyable...
Read moreTiny Otters has several “stations” for little ones, Medical office, grocery store, tool bench, and craft table. Seems great for 3-4 year olds, but not a lot of physical structures to them to climb/slide, jump. Definitely missed no trampoline…our 3.5 yr olds always look forward to a trampoline. Tiny Otters was very clean. They do have a snack bar and coffee available for purchase. Bathrooms were clean and they provide sandals for both little ones and adults to use, this is very nice. They could use a few more larger push toys, the tricycles are very small, but our little ones still enjoyed them. This is the first place I saw a sandbox area, so that was fun for a bit and the acrylic coloured peg wall was very interesting for our little guys. They just liked removing and moving the large pegs around. I was concerned that was not allowed, but owners/staff were awesome. They said, “creative play is encouraged”. That is very very cool! Thanks Tiny Otters. Even though the location is a bit hard to find, we had...
Read moreBeautiful new play place in Vaughan. I went with my 14-month-old and our friends with same age baby. The space is so aesthetically pleasing, and there are tons of activities. We appreciated the larger baby space, as that is hard to come by at indoor play places. Our babies especially enjoyed the light wall, the crawlers section, and the Duplo wall. I could see kids up to around 5-years-old spending a lot of time engaged in play here. I loved how clean and cute it all was. The staff were cleaning and tidying the whole time we were there. Even the bathroom area had cute, thoughtful details. There is a place to sit and eat your own snacks just outside the play area. The admission price was good, but make sure to scope out the parking with the lowest fee (underground, entrance behind the building), or you will end up in a lot and paying $10+ for the hours you...
