I had a bad experience recently at YMCA Collingwood area because last March 6, 2023 (Monday) we went there together with my kids for my son’s soccer lesson, so my son changed his shoes since his wearing a sneakers which is not allowed during practice, he put his sneaker in the family change room locker and unfortunately his shoes was STOLEN and i was frustrated because it was only worn a couple of times and it’s his favourite shoes. I reported the incident to the facility staff and I was told to to email the manager directly and sadly I haven’t gotten any response from the manager even after sending two separate email about the incident. I also tried calling the YMCA to talk to the manager but I was not able to get a hold with the manager because he was not on duty. Today, I spoke with the manager March 8, 2023 and she said she can’t do anything about it, i tried asking if they could look the CCTV footage in the lobby for us to identify the culprit and for then to help me with the incident. But sadly she can’t do anything about it. If only they could’ve offered me anything to help or maybe a discount or something that would at least appease the situation or the incident that we experience, but unfortunately I was only given a response that they can’t do anything about it. My original impression of the swimming program was not so positive, as at times they were understaffed, unorganized, different instructors every week teaching my son, etc. But there is one individual who throughout all of this chaos, stood out...Abdul who is the coordinator there and is truly amazing. They would be so lost without him due to them never having a Supervisor/Manager on staff. Abdul covered every position during his shift from life guard, coordinator and swimming instructor, just to keep everything running as smooth as he could without the proper means to do so. But what I would like to point out and what means the most to me is that he, helped my son learn to swim after a near drowning experience (during lessons). Abdul was companionate, patient, understanding and attentive. He talked to my son every class regardless if he was the instructor or not, he made sure that his instructors understood my son's fears and how to accommodate them, but most of all, he took the time to go into the water yesterday with the instructor and made sure my son was comfortable enough to move past his insecurities and move up to the next level. People like Abdul deserve recognition for their dedication and love for what they do, but also for their sense of companion and humanity for others. The staff here are way too perfect. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and accomodating. The patrons are also great, everyone is very social and kind. The location is very clean and well equipped. I enjoy being here. I feel like my fitness goals are genuinely being reached and I am in a supportive environment of like minded people.

I had a serious accident here caused entirely by my own stupidity. The staff were gentle, attentive, and completely judgement free. I felt like I was in great hands of people who truly knew what they were doing. What stood out to me most was their first aid person asking my consent before touching me and talking me through each thing she did. She was very careful and it was clear she took pride in her assistance. When I finally returned to work out, the staff took time to ask how I was and what happened to me, it was clear I was not just another biweekly payment to them.

The yoga class is my favorite, if I had more time for 6:45am yoga, I would go to every session. The instructor is very kind and really wants people to succeed. She is very intelligent and well trained. It feels as though you are attending a luxury yoga class run by a master. Every other class here is also run with the same quality and magnificent instructors.
