We originally chose to cancel our account last year for security reasons. However, without our authorization, the company reactivated our account and resumed charging us. When we inquired about this, they cited their Terms & Conditions as justification for their actions.
Unbeknownst to us, they continued withdrawing funds from our bank account for services we did not use. These unauthorized charges accumulated over more than a year. When we disputed the charges, they only offered a partial refund of 50%, leaving us responsible for the remaining amount. Despite our explicit request to cancel the account, they merely placed it on hold. After six months, they automatically reinstated the charges and resumed withdrawing funds without any prior notification. I have spent considerable time speaking with multiple representatives, yet the resolution remains unsatisfactory.
I strongly advise others to exercise caution when placing an account on hold or attempting to cancel. YMCA practices feel misleading, and customers should be fully aware of the potential risks.
At first, they present a friendly and welcoming approach—until they are caught in questionable practices. The moment you challenge them, they treat you as if you are in the wrong. Their customer service has been extremely disappointing!
I will be sharing my experience with others to ensure they are aware of these deceptive practices. Proceed with caution when dealing with YMCA Westend in Edmonton.
I will be contacting their upper management. ...
Read morePlease stay away if you are worried about the privacy and safety of your data and payment information. It may be cheaper option compared to Rec centres or private GyMs but it’s a trade off with overall experience. Just try canceling your membership and ask them to delete your payment information from file and the whole story unfolds. It’s not staff but the whole process. As customers/ members you can’t cancel your membership or delete your profile online. You have to visit the YMCA personally but then the associates can’t cancel either it can be only canceled by a particular manager, who is difficult to find. And meanwhile you are advised as short term fix just to put your membership on hold. Just to realize that you are getting charged on Cc. Now back to square one since you can’t cancel or delete your payment information on your own . Only and best option is to go to your bank and cancel your credit card. The worst part of whole thing is how lightly the staff took the issue of data payment and privacy breach concern. So just like other cheap options this one comes with big trade off of your...
Read moreIn one month they plan on banning my 12 year old child because I want long term data and nolonger in a trial phase before vaccinating him. I can't in good conscience stand behind any company willing to outcast a child. Banning a child because he is unvaccinated is wrong no matter how you spin it!!! I was told in a phone conversation (I'm guessing because it might look as bad in writing as it sounded coming from his mouth, so no email) if he is not vaccinated he is not welcome at the YMCA. (He has all other vaccinations, I'm not anti-vaxx, I expect proper studies and out of trials, especially when testing on children!!!) For those of you who don't know this phase of trials (yes trials, still in test phase) lasts for 3 years (as per regulatory and safty policies). This is a horrible presidence to set and I am truly horrified and disgusted by the actions of the YMCA. Especially considering what they claim to stand for... Access for all? That is a lie!!! My child is not dangerous and if all at risk groups are vaccinated this shouldn't...
