Emerald Palace 富瑤酒家 — Restaurant in Winnipeg

Ever since Ming left, the food hasnt been the same. For those who dont know Emerald is now under new ownership, and personally the butter chicken, that which they were known for, is pretty inconsistent. I've ordered it 3 times now, and 2 out of the 3 times it was lacking the butter taste. If you think some of their food was bland before you should think again because this was even more so than ever. The fried rice was also lacking the smokey flavour it used to have, and the chow mein was a little too salty for me. I feel bad leaving this review because the waiter was nice, but the food was really bad. The crab rangoons weren’t drained of oil at all and mostly had broccoli in them. The vegetables on the chow mein were in giant pieces and the sauce tasted off, kind of like those liquid cat treat things (I’m not trying to be mean but it was really bad). Made me feel sick so I stopped eating it. The chicken was cut up haphazardly and just thrown in a deep fryer, so it was still edible but very bland. The water tasted off.

Having grown up in Winnipeg, Emerald Palace was always a staple for my family. I was sad when we moved because I would no longer be able to enjoy the food at this restaurant. I was recently in Winnipeg and had to come back because I have missed this place. It's not just the food, although it has always been delicious. The wonton soup and the Cantonese chow mein are my absolute favourites! It's also just the people who work there. Ming - the owner, is the sweetest person ever and is one of the best people you could ever meet. He makes everyone feel like a friend and makes sure you are enjoying the food.
