I really wanted to love this place (small, community run, in my neighborhood, focused on organic food production, a little oasis in the middle of the city) but sadly the experience was a disappointment. First the good - I made a reservation for myself and two friends for dinner. When we arrived we were greeted and offered drinks (I appreciated the non-alcoholic aperativos) and having some time to enjoy the garden before being seated. The flowers and herbs smell amazing and the greenhouse is charming and beautifully decorated.
The first course came out and surprisingly my friend was served a vegetarian option. I hadn’t indicated any dietary restrictions on my reservation and even if I had, no one had confirmed which of us was vegetarian. So we assumed it was a mistake and asked for the regular menu. The staff was visibly bothered by this, seemed annoyed, took away the vegetarian plate and then brought it back to my friend. We had to ask again for the non-vegetarian option before they changed it.
Then, I ordered a glass of wine, the first secret said she was new so she didn’t know anything about the wine. This in itself was distasteful and rude to say but also surprising their staff wouldn’t be better trained.
So I spoke with a different server and ordered something, she poured me a taste. It was a natural wine and a bit too twangy for me so I asked if she might recommend something else. She was visibly annoyed and said “well I can bring something up from the cellar for you…” it made me feel very uncomfortable.
When the bill came we asked to apply it equally, but strangely I was charged a different amount than my friend. When we asked the server they told us it was because one of us had more drinks. However my friend and I both had the same things, each a non-alcoholic apertivo and a glass of white wine. We asked to see the itemized receipt and discovered we had been charged for 3 Hugo spritzes instead of 2 an-aperativos. The server seemed extremely annoyed when we pointed this out and said she would take one of the spritzes off but that the spritzes were the same price as the anaperativos so she wouldn’t change that. They were not the same price (one had alcohol and one did not) but at this point we felt so uncomfortable we were just glad to get the one drink removed from the bill.
The entire time we were treated as if we were doing something wrong or being an inconvenience when they had made the mistakes. Humans make mistakes, that’s not the problem, but the fact that no one at the restaurant took accountability, apologized or even tried to make it right left a sour taste in our mouths.
Sadly, while I wanted to love this place, I will not be coming back or...
Read moreØstergro is a very positive social project but unfortunately I cannot recommend buying a ticket for their brunch.
The breakfast didn’t really include any plants from the rooftop garden at all. We had some bread, a pastry, a tiny bit of yoghurt and a little cottage cheese. It was very small and underwhelming. We went hoping to try rooftop fruits, berries vegetables but didn’t get any!
The so-called farm tour was approximately all of 4-minutes long standing in one spot. It wasn’t much more information than the website gives you. Very little detail on what exactly they are growing, how they do it or how they run the farm.
It was a really pity as I was very excited before going. The rooftop is very pretty though and they seem to be growing a lot which is...
Read moreI'm absolutely in love with this place. The veggies are 20 times more tasty than the supermarket ones, the price is very good for the quality and the amount of items you get, the people that work there are adorable and welcoming and you can tell the reason the roof is covered in lush plants, flowers and veggies is because they are grown with so much love. If you are in the waiting list, have the patience to wait, you won't regret it. OH and their eggs are also so flavorful and totally worth getting. I'm so glad there's a place like this...
