Disappointing Aurora “Hunting” Experience

I recently went on the Aurora hunting mini-van trip combined and unfortunately, I found the experience to be quite disappointing and not worth the money. While I understand that the Aurora can be elusive, I felt the whole trip lacked effort and engagement from the tour organizers.

The guide’s approach didn’t help either. The guide made patronizing comments like, “If you can see the Aurora, you can tell whether you’re in Sweden, Norway, or Iceland. If you can’t see it, you won’t see it anywhere.” At the time, I believed her, but the next day I ran into a friend who had been out the same night and did manage to see the Aurora. This made me question the guide’s statements, and it felt like an excuse for not making more of an effort.

Overall, the trip felt more like a taxi ride to a couple of standard spots where the chances of seeing the lights are higher, with no real attempt to hunt for them actively. After a couple of stops and no sightings, we were simply told, “No luck,” and sent back to the office. For the price, I expected much more, including some guidance, engagement, and a more proactive effort to actually search for the Aurora.

I wouldn’t recommend this tour if you’re looking for a genuine Aurora hunting experience, as it felt more like a quick trip with no real effort put into making...

We booked two tours with Husky & Co - Aurora Hunting by Snowmobile and also the Husky Sled experience. We actually read the reviews and tour details ahead of booking our holiday and so they were the reason that we booked into Saariselka to start with. So we booked both tours a long way ahead of schedule. Our initial correspondence with the company was excellent - they answered all our questions in a friendly and professional way. Most importantly everything they said they did matched up exactly with what they did! From arrival at the premises through to leaving at the end of the tours - all the staff were super friendly, very professional and obviously knew exactly what they were doing. The instructions for riding the snowmobiles and the husky sleds were excellently and thoroughly explained. The routes we went on for both were beautiful too - you really did feel like you were in the Arctic wilderness. This was especially true for the Aurora Hunting trip - once we got out of town we didn't see any other snowmobile groups until we got back to within 1km of the village. Our tour guide (Aiva) seemed to know the places to go that other tours wouldn't so that we would get the best conditions for seeing the Northern Lights. Highly...

We had a very, very nice experience here! Even though the snow was sticky so it was not optimal, we had nice views and everything went smooth. We had a very friendly guide called Lennert (also spoke our language - Dutch) who explained everything very well and was also helpful. When you book the 2,5 hour husky trip here, you can expect: a bus ride from a pickup point to the husky farm possibility to switch to their clothes (we only took the boots because it was only -1°C and we were prepared with warm clothes ourselves) the guide explaining about how to operate the sled, the signs he will be giving during the trip (stop, slow down,etc..) 1,5h ride with the sled, 10 kilometers in total and you get to switch driver halfway petting the dogs after the ride, taking pictures with the dogs a hot berry juice and some cookies around a fireplace inside a cabin, while the guide gives you some information about the dogs and takes questions meeting the young huskies who aren't pulling the sleds yet but are still learning

If we come to Lapland again, I'm coming back to Husky&Co! Thanks again Lennert for the nice...

We booked the 2-3 hours husky trip. The staff is in general friendly and helpful. But let's now get to the many negative points: - all dogs do live on an iron chain. As we saw hundreds of dogs being on chains we have been shocked. - you ride the sledges on your own but you drive in a row of 6 or 7 (in our case) sledges. You had to break all the time which is not fun for you and also not for the dogs. - some very few dogs don't wanted to pull the sledge. You can see that they do run different and sit down all the time when possible while all the other dogs keep on being excited and want to pull pull pull. The staff does not care about those dogs and it needed to go on. - 155 Euros per person in increadible much. Right now i don't know why this trip was so expensive. You do support a very sad dog ownership. - the trip should last 2-3 hours. You ride the slide for a bit less then one hour. - You are surrounded by a noisy snow mobile all the time. I would not do that again and i really don't understand those many positve ratings. For me it seems that some influencers are involved in their trips.
