Just returned from 5 days in Saariselka with TUI and wanted to share a few tips that might be helpful.||We stayed at The Snowflake Hotel (real name is Riekonlinna) - it's next to The Holiday Club and Tunturi Hotels. Our room was in the main hotel and it was ready when we arrived at 2pm.||❄️ You only need to wear your usual travelling clothes for the plane. I wore jeans and a hoodie. It's warm on the plane. And it's only a short walk from the plane to the airport terminal.||❄️ Turn left as you come out of the hotel and walk down the hill to find the main sledging hill. Here you can grab sledges and take them anywhere in the resort with you.||❄️ It's 50 euros cheaper per adult to book the husky trail blazers experience through the Lapland Safaris shop next to the hotel than it is to book it through TUI. All the paid experiences that TUI offer are available at this shop cheaper than TUI. And they offer more experiences.||❄️ Turn right from the hotel, then cross the road towards the fairy lights and you'll find another hill that can be sledged on. At the bottom of the hill is a stunning cross country walk.||❄️ Turn right from the hotel and walk for 15 mins and you get to the supermarket which is well stocked. Take a sledge to bring your shopping back. ||❄️ Take snacks.||❄️ You can drink the tap water. It actually tastes like decent mineral water.||❄️ Download the Aurora app and sign up for text alerts if you want to see the Northern Lights. We didn't get to see them unfortunately but the app will alert you if there's a chance.||❄️ TUI supply you with a snowsuit, boots, 1 pair of socks and 1 pair of mittens.||❄️ For clothing - take a base layer and a mid layer to put underneath the thermal snowsuit that you are supplied with. For example, thermal leggings and top, then a jogging suit. You'll need two pairs of thick woolly socks under your boots. For your head, take a balaclava and a woolly hat. Take gloves (ski gloves are best)||❄️ Food was decent. Even our fussy eaters ate a good breakfast and dinner. The 'gala dinner' on the last night wasn't very well organised though as they told everyone to arrive at 7.30pm so there was a lot of queuing.||❄️ At the hotel you will have a drying cupboard in your room where you can put wet clothes. Ours wasn't very efficient and if gloves etc were soaked it took more than 24 hours to dry them.||❄️ If you go out on your balcony at The Snowflake Hotel, leave the door fully open or make sure someone is in the room. To open the door you push the handle up, to close it you push it down. Our door handle was a little loose and fell down when I was on the balcony, locking me out. ||❄️ There's lots of snow in Saariselka at the moment so don't worry about that.||Have an amazing time....

We’ve just returned from our 2 night trip to Saariselkä. I was nervous before hand, I thought it was going to be hyped up and not be as magical as everyone says. I was definitely wrong! ||We flew with Jet2, and for once, we weren’t delayed on either flight! The outgoing flight was fantastic - the crew were amazing, so engaging and getting the kids excited, sing alongs, activity books, hands down the best flight I’ve been on for interaction! ||Santas Lapland reps are everywhere when you get there. It’s as smooth an operation as you could get. You’re allocated a coach which remains the same during your stay so you know where you’re going. They tell you where and when to be everywhere you need to be. I was impressed by how little organising we had to be responsible for - we just had to be on time! ||The rep in Riekonlinna was fantastic and went to a lot of effort for us to sort out our husky ride out as we had an infant with us who couldn’t go on. She managed to get us 2 slots so we could take it in turns which we were so grateful for! ||The rangers at the activity centre were fabulous. Amazing with the kids, sing-alongs and unbelievable energy, they genuinely love their job! My 5 year old found the naughty elves hilarious! |Nothing was too much for the staff, both santas Lapland staff and hotel and shop staff - everyone we came across was absolutely lovely, including other guests! ||In terms of the hotel and Saariselkä itself, we couldn’t have asked for more. An abundance of snow, the kids were in their element. Not quite snowball making snow but mountains of the stuff nonetheless! We managed to see the northern lights from the viewing room in the Riekonlinna on our second night which was amazing. The festive meal was all arranged and communicated well, lovely buffet spread to meet everyone’s preferences. ||The ONLY negative thing I have to comment on was the lack of variety for lunch at the activity centre but I also completely understand how chaotic it would be otherwise! But other than that, I have no negatives whatsoever, it was absolutely fantastic!||Shout out to the ranger Nathan who entertained the kids spectacularly and somehow managed to remember our name on arriving at the coach to go home! ||If you’re questioning whether it’s worth it - it definitely is. It’s by far the most expensive holiday I’ve been on, but everything other than drinks at the hotel and souvenirs is included and it definitely is a once in a...

This is by far the worst hotel of our Finland trip. the rooms and the whole hotel are completely run down. in the corridors a bad smell. even the room key looks like a gadget from Flash Gordon from the 70s. i have no problem spending €180 for a superior room, but then expect something completely different. rooms poorly soundproofed. if the neighbor has no consideration, you do not sleep. would be interested to know where the people who give 5 stars have slept. breakfast good; very good products. however arranged like on a highway rest stop in Italy. everything sticks together.... you either take none or 10 slices of salami or cheese.

The glass igloo was so homey and cosy, with an amazing view. I looked forward to coming back to this little home after a long day on the slopes. It is perfect for some peace and quiet in the wilderness. The receptionists at the hotel were so warm and helpful. A special shoutout to Sinni who greeted me at the hotel upon my arrival at midnight. She made me feel right at home after a long day of travel and gave me a great first impression :)
