Thank you for the humiliating experience. I showed up with my two daughters this morning (one of them has even climbed lower Yosemite Falls with a guide last summer) and wanted to simply climb with them for a while. As Iâd learned to belay a different way than is âaccepted in Franceâ (and Iâve been lucky enough to climb some gnarly walls in my youth in Ohio, West Virginia, Colorado, and California) they âjudgedâ me unfit to belay them. Rather than offering a very simple solution, which would have been to quickly teach me the âofficial, new, French wayâ of belaying (which quite literally would have taken 5 minutes), they informed me that I could not belay my daughters and thus we could not climb as we wished (on belay). Sure, we could have stayed and bouldered or used the self-belay systems, but after being completely humiliated in front of my girls, who would want to spend their hard-earned Euros in an establishment that just made you look like a fool in front of your kids? Regardless if you only plan on using the auto belay, you are required to pass a belay test.
Having learnt to climb in Canada, I tie in slightly differently than in France. After the belay test, the staff member advised me to tweak a small thing.

   Read moreLe lieu est sympa et la salle lumineuse. Depuis la reprise par Arkose, le renouvellement des ouvertures sâest amĂ©liorĂ©e et des amĂ©nagements ont Ă©tĂ© rĂ©alisĂ©s (accueil, salle sâĂ©chauffent principalement).
NĂ©anmoins : malgrĂ© la promesse de travaux « incessamment sous peu (câĂ©tait votre rĂ©ponse Ă mon avis il y a trois ans), les vestiaires et sauna nâont pas bougĂ©s depuis 15 ans. LâĂ©tat gĂ©nĂ©ral est vraiment dĂ©plorable (la plus part des casiers sont cassĂ©s, pas dâeau chaude dans les douches du sauna, pour la plus part des douches câest juste un tuyaux rouillĂ© etc.) nouvelle consigne passĂ©e au personnel de lâaccueil rĂ©cemment : ne pas allumer le sauna si personne nâen a fait la demande. Câest trĂšs bien sur le principe. Sauf quand personne ne vous le dit (et ce nâest Ă©crit nulle part). RĂ©sultat câest une fois en serviette quâon apprend quâil faut 30 minute pour le lancer. Ce serait pourtant super simple de le dire quand on passe sa carte ! il y a systĂ©matiquement quelques voies sur lesquelles il nây a pas de corde dâinstallĂ©e en moulinette ou mĂȘme au sol pour grimper en tĂȘte. Alors certes on peut sĂ»rement aller en chercher une pour y aller en tĂȘte, mais 95% du public de la salle grimpe en moulinette. RĂ©sultat, les voies en questions restent non rĂ©alisĂ©es, toute la journĂ©e y compris les jours oĂč il y a du monde (qui se concentre du coup dâautant plus sur les voies restantes). Ăa fait trois fois que je signale ce problĂšme Ă priori simple Ă rĂ©soudre mais rien ne change. Pour moi ça reflĂšte un Ă©tat dâesprit encore Ă amĂ©liorer au niveau de lâĂ©quipe qui gĂšre la salle.
