Went out of my way to find this place because Iâm out of books and was needing books in English. I already was unimpressed by the selection of books as they just werenât that good but I was going to buy a few anyway so I could have reading on the train. There are books for kids and while I was looking for books for myself, my daughter of course was reading a kids book as is commonplace in a bookstore. The lady told my 6 year old daughter and I âwe canât just let people read books for free, if sheâs not going to buy it she canât look through a bookâ and didnât let her sit next to me with a book while I looked for mine outside where there were books and tables. Epitome of white feminism, thinking theyâre progressive but really very unoriginal and hyper-capitalistic (which I could already tell from the book collection honestly). Never in my life have I heard of a bookstore telling kids they canât browse through books while their parents look to buy. I was going to buy several books despite nothing really appealing to me that strongly, but Iâd rather look out the window on the train than support a performative...
Read moreToday , I visited this place with a friend who is a regular here. She suggested this place to me because of a good atmosphere but I was very dissappointed with the behaviour of the staff. We stayed there for a good one hour or more. We bought beverages as well during our time there as well as three books . My friend was going through a book from a section and after a while the lady came to say that we cannot read it as it is new and very expensive, in a rude way. Now, the section from where we picked the book never showed a sign saying do not browse through these nor was there any price tag attached to the book. And it is so weird to say don't read , as you cannot really read a whole book in that short time. I hope they find a less offensive way to tell their customers what to do, or just put up a simple sign saying...
