Lüneburg's town hall is a storyteller, administrative seat, landmark and gem all in one. With its 259 rooms, it is one of the most outstanding architectural monuments in northern Germany and the largest medieval town hall in the north. The construction of our town hall began around 1230 and was repeatedly rebuilt and expanded over the centuries. Thanks to its 700-year building history, traces from various epochs have been left throughout the town hall: Gothic and Renaissance court arbor, prince's hall, old archive, chancellery and mayor's chamber. Masterful woodwork adorns the large council chamber, which is one of the largest Renaissance halls in Germany. The Hall of Homage and the market facade date from the Baroque period. In the tower there is a clockwork with chimes made of Meissen porcelain.

Das Rathaus ist zudem noch Hauptsitz vom Lüneburger Rat und der Verwaltung und liegt im Herzen der Hansestadt, vor dem angrenzenden historischem Marktplatz mit der Nachbildung des Luna Brunnen und bronzenen Artemis Statue.
