Unfortunately, my experience (trying) to buy two armchairs from House of Twenty has been very similar to Ana and Nicole's. I first paid for the armchairs on 14 May... today is the 18th September and (luckily) the end of what has been a long saga.
What follows may sound familiar to you...
First there were repeated promises of delivery of the chairs, but nothing ever materialised. I always had to chase to confirm delivery... and then Natalie would cancel the day before. She was always very apologetic and there was always a reason: the girls were working on another project out of town, the fabric hadn't arrived and there was confusion over who had or hadn't signed for it etc. Everytime she'd cancel I felt so let down. And every time she would cancel again my belief in the chairs ever coming to my door diminished.
After the fourth failed attempt, I finally cancelled and requested a refund. Natalie sent me a partial refund for the cost of the chairs but not the fabric. This was pending on my account for a week. When the fateful day finally arrived for the funds to land, I got a message from PayPal to say that the refund couldn't be completed. I panicked (and, yes, I was angry and I cried). I sent a flurry of emails to Natalie. Natalie did then process the refund which arrived in my account soon after (why couldn't this be done from the start, I wonder?). I insisted that she also transfer me back the money for the fabric which she has now done this evening. Phew.
Maybe the solution is to practice a little prudence?...
If after reading this you (reader) still decide to go ahead and purchase that dream set of chairs you have your eye on from House of Twenty (they do sell beautiful things), just promise me you won't pay for everything upfront and, for what you do pay for upfront, use your credit card. At least then if you are as unfortunate as me you won't be fully out of pocket and you can sleep easy in the knowledge that, if push really comes to shove, you can raise a claim for your money through your credit card provider.
And I really do mean unfortunate as me. Lets balance the good with the bad here. The 5 stars certainly do outweigh the 1 star which I have felt compelled to leave, so do not be discouraged by (what shall we call it?)......
Read moreI can't recommend House of Twenty enough. Having stumbled across the website looking for vintage furniture I met Natalie at the warehouse to purchase a beautiful sofa and chair for our house. She was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and really takes a pride in her work. I am a Project Manager and, based on that experience, have since used House of Twenty to supply me with furniture for some office refurbishments and recommended to friends and family in the area. Her furniture is always excellent quality and she selects a wide range of interesting pieces. She really knows her stuff, is a pleasure to deal with, and has a great team supporting her to ensure excellent service from restoration to delivery. Thank you...
Read moreI checked out House of Twenty over the weekend on the recommendation of a friend, and I am very glad that I did! Having recently become a home-owner and looking for unique one-off pieces to gradually fill my home, House of Twenty is the perfect place for it. I got to speak with the owner who is super knowledgeable about individual pieces, leaving a genuine impression that the pieces have been curated with a keen eye as they all have so much character. I ended up purchasing a coffee table and a lamp and had to curb my enthusiasm to not go overboard in one go. A place well worth visiting and I will make sure to go back once I have settled in with my new pieces and can see what there is space...
