🌟 Review for Vala Restaurant – Karpathos

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Vala in Karpathos, and I must say, the experience was memorable – mostly for the right reasons.

Kudos to the entire staff for their warm hospitality and excellent service throughout our visit. The atmosphere was inviting, the food delicious, and the service prompt. A special thank you to Marina, who stood out with her exceptional attentiveness, positive energy, and genuine care for the guests. She added a personal touch to our experience that truly made a difference – Marina is a gem.

However, I feel it’s important to highlight an unfortunate and recurring issue that put a damper on the overall experience. An elderly woman, seemingly affiliated with the ownership, repeatedly approaches and confronts anyone who parks in front of the restaurant, aggressively telling them to leave—even when it’s clear they are customers intending to dine at Vala. This behavior is not only unwelcoming but also unnecessary, especially since the parking area in question is public and not restricted by local authorities.

Such actions send the wrong message and create a needlessly hostile first impression, which contrasts sharply with the professionalism and warmth shown by the rest of the team.

In summary: • Vala is a fantastic spot to enjoy great food and service in Karpathos. • The team, especially Marina, deserves high praise. • But I strongly urge the management to address the behavior of this individual, as it risks driving away loyal and new patrons alike.

One of the few restaurants open in March. It was suggested that we join our waitress and go to the counter to see what they had available, which was actually really nice. Several prepared hot foods were on the “buffet” line, including both meat and vegetarian dishes. Additionally, they have burgers on the grill that could be made to order. We chose Fava, Giant Beans, and a pasta dish, all of which were served promptly and tasted good. Paired with a house wine carafe and some live music, it was a pleasant experience. Mycket svårt att betygsätta denna restaurang. Det är en upplevelse helt sin egen genre. Tanten som driver stället är extra allt.

När man kommer in får man komma fram till en disk och se de olika maträtterna och välja. Det finns även fler rätter (typ pasta med köttfärssås och hamburgare).

Sedan går man och sätter sig vid ett bord (utan att veta vad det man har beställt kommer att kosta). Tanten säljer på en några ytterligare förrätter.

Maten var god och känns både vällagad och hemlagad. Portionerna är enorma. Varje rätt skulle ha räckt till 2-3 personer.

När vi hade ätit så mycket vi orkade ville vi betala. Tanten sa nåt vi inte förstod men vi befarade att det betydde att det var efterrätt på ingång. Vi försökte protestera utan framgång. Plötsligt hade vi varsin tallrik vattenmelon framför oss.

Sedan fick vi betala. Det var vår dyraste middag hittills i Pigadia. Om vi hade delat på rätterna två och två skulle det ha blivit billigt. Helst seriöst är det ett tips. (Oklart om tanten går med på det.)

Maten höll hög kvalitet och var som sagt enormt rikligt tilldelad. Tanten är ett riktigt original som gärna pillar barnen i håret och pussar dem på armen. Gillar men det är det här stället kanon. För oss blev det...
