I had the opportunity to learn the traditional art of Mayan weaving with Cojolya. It was an incredible experience. I got to pick the colours, the design, width and length of the fabric myself. The teacher was very kind and patient and explained every single process in great detail, she immediately helped me when I encountered a problem and was overall very encouraging and supportive. I learned every part of the weaving process, from sorting the threads on the tool called urdidora, to reinforcing the threads with a mixture made out of rice flour and water, so the don't rip. I could assemble the backstab loom myself and I could also add a brocade to my fabric, so I learned a different technique of weaving as well.
