Dishonest business with rude staff
If you are considering going to Jack Dylans in Westport for a ring re-sizing, reconsider! We went to get a plain gold wedding band re-sized and after 4 revisits the size still was not correct. Each time we paid for re-sizing without complaining thinking it was part of the process. It would do this business good to re-train on ring re-sizing and customer service. Their customer service stops after a smile, after that they are tactless, unhelpful and if you dare question the price increase after your fourth re-size you are in for a mouthful from the aggressive older male that works there.
The first three times, we were charged 29.95 euro per re-sizing. From the first re-sizing we asked to keep any gold that was removed as we were sizing a ring down and wanted to keep it in case we needed to size up. Well, we did need to re-size up and the next three times, our own original piece of gold was used. When I went to pay the fourth time, the price went up from 29.95 to 49.95... that is a 65% increase over 2 weeks! When I politely questioned this, the lady at the counter told me the âprice of gold has gone upâ but when I replied that our own gold was used, she didnât know why and so went over to the man at the counter who beckoned me over. He was extremely rude straight away and accused me of âcausing an issueâ. It was well within reason to question this increase. When he repeated the gold price excuse and I informed him our own gold was used, he then shifted the reason to âwell thatâs what you get when the jeweller is paid 75 euro an hourâ - so which terrible excuse for this dishonest business practice is correct?
In addition to the blatant price gouging they could not answer for, this mans attitude was argumentative and unreasonable. Itâs as if he expects customers to complain, so perhaps this is a regularly occurring issue there? Realising this was going nowhere, I politely paid the extortionate price and left. My partner, upon hearing about my treatment, returned to the store to request a refund of the price difference, but he didnât even get to requesting a refund as the rude man was again, very argumentative and defensive right away and threw out more random excuses about the price hike. He was more interested in arguing that his staff did size the ring correctly but we picked the wrong size even though on one occasion it had been him who sized the ring and we went with his recommendation.
This business has no accountability and absolutely zero customer care. Even IF you gave your jeweller a raise, in this case wouldnât you absorb the additional 20 euro in the interests of a good customer experience? All around this business doesnât deserve your custom, go elsewhere where you will be respected as a money paying customer and where you will be treated much better.

I have gone to Jack Dylan jewellers as l have found that they will accommodate you no matter what, Their jeweller is of the highest quality and their experience shows & for their quality jewellery they are not over priced. But I have to say that my husband was in hospital in Dublin and he lost his St.Christopher medal & chain and I was so upset about it because he had worn his St.Christopher always and St.Christopher always had been with him. Iwas also at home but I was also house bound and I rang Jack Dylans & explained my dilemma and I couldn't believe it but they put on what's App what they had in store so I could see them & then helped me with getting the best supporting chain for the medal and I said that l would to have 3 words that both of us would recognise but my next dilemma was that my daughter had my bank card since Covid as she was doing the shopping, px, bills and she would not be able to go to Westport for a few days but that lovely lady took me at my word & it was engraved, wrapped beautifully when my daughter went to collect it. I always go to Jack Dylans jewellers and I am never disappointed but where else would that high standard of trust be given & during Covid our own local small businesses went above & beyond & l buy local always because they are the ones who kept us going by their hard work during worrying times and Jack Dylan jewellers and all of our small businesses deserve our custom,now & always.    Read moreI have been going to this shop for 4 year's every time I am on Holidays we go in and buy rings and ear rings and other small item's. We'll last year I don't know the exact date my partner Ray bought me a very nice ring but after coming home the little stone fell out of it. I could have got it fixed in my local jewellery shop which would not be a problem. But I decided I would bring it back. Sean have always been very good and his wife. But when we came back last Monday they showed no interest in the problem and the lady with short black hair said this is 18 carat gold I don't think you got this here. I said I have 5 rings from the shop and many ear rings. Why would I wait to bring it back. Sean was there. That was last Monday. She said I will ring you Wednesday she didn't I rang they said they were busy they would ring me back. They didn't. Mr Dylan have told me many times my jewellery was worth thousands. I told him my nephew had made most of it. My partner went into the shop now she said ye don't seem to have the wright date when it was bought. Again saying the ring was not there's. He said give me the ring and I will get it fixed in kilkenny. Its a small job I bought a very nice watch in another jewellery shop in Westport 4 year's ago after that we spent all our money in Dylans. All I can say is I am disappointed disgusted that lady didn't believe me. Plus the fact 4 day's later have the ring in my bag broken and going home like this. They will sell you anything.
