Westpoint Shopping Centre — Local services in County Mayo

Missed opportunity. What a shame, shop retail outlets left empty and many closed down. Westpoint should have been made into a Mall. Westport is notorious for rain and an indoor shopping facility or a mall is nowhere to be seen. The area including the car park should have been undercover within a building with the car park situated underneath it. There could have been a cinema, fast food chains, bowling alley and many shops contained within the Mall. Instead we have a half empty car park, empty shops and Tescos dominating the area. What were the planners thinking? I know revenue is always an issue especially in the west of Ireland, but other counties are granted their own Malls. Being a tourist destination you'd think the Government/planners would look carefully at what would attract more visitors as well as catering for the ones they have.
