We were here for dinner last night and had an enjoyable meal. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived and although we had a reservation we still had to wait ten minutes for our table, which we didn't really mind. We got out table and menus and it took 25mins to take our order. Once the order was taken the service did improve in fairness so we are just putting it down to the fact that they were under pressure and maybe short of waiting staff. We thoroughly enjoyed the food but we were asked if we would like to see dessert menus but waited ten minutes and they never arrived so we just paid and left. Il vulcano has a strong position amongst Westport restaurants and has stood the test of time however we did feel more can be done on the service side of things. We didn't make them aware of it while we were there because we felt it would have fallen on deaf ears and they had more than one opportunity to prove their service. The most expensive dish, the Angus Steak we ordered medium rare and we got it overcooked. We sent it back just for the second time to arrive again overcooked and even dryer. Someone from the staff came back to check if the steak was ok and as we said it wasnât we only got an Oh No! as a reply. After this we didnât see the manâs face again. The seafood pizza was alright. Nothing out of this world. I consider it is a bit overpriced for the quality of food you get and the substandard service. Very nice restaurant, high quality food and chefs. Waiters are quick friendly and helpful, especially Marco and Connor whom I hear have unfortunately left. I don't know anything about the management but the decor is very nice and the tables are laid out well. Another nice touch is the chefs can be seen. It's more friendly when you can see how much care is put into the cooking. The food isn't overpriced and seems to be from good suppliers. The chefs have recently resigned and new ones have taken over but the food standard is still high, the previous chefs set a high bar, but I feel the new guys are well able for the task.
