A true highlight for us was our visit to Finns Table, we had the best experience here, top to bottom! We only had one night in Kinsale, but heard it was a foodie town and we were excited. We had a few suggestions but after hearing how Finns is family owned and operated we wanted to support them and try it out. First of all, Julie is hilarious. I loved how playful and funny she was, Irish humor that filled my cup right away. And Johns cooking.... Good Lord.
So, one of our favorite restaurants is an Irish one in a little beach town in Oregon because we love the mussels so much. Well, I almost regret having the mussels at Finns because they were SO slap-you-in-the-face delicious and who knows when we’ll get to Ireland again. Yay for anyone who lives near Finn’s Table because we STILL talk about the mussels we had there and how delicious they were. Absolutely the best we ever had and we still fantasize about them and tell everyone no one in the world makes them like John does! (We were afraid Julie would take the broth away before we were done slurping it like heathens, haha). The beef was also just gorgeous, my husband had the lamb (which I never, ever like) and he encouraged me to try it, which also made me feel like a hoarder because I savored every little bit and could not believe how delicious it was, and that I enjoyed it so much!
John and Julie watched us dive in, noting that it must be our first taste of proper Irish beef. It was so heartwarming to see the pride they take in their local farm, I believe they told us Johns father is the butcher. Little details like that matter a lot and go such a long way into tasting the love, the passion and the time this family puts into their beautiful restaurant. I am so thrilled we had the chance to enjoy Finns Table on our one night in Kinsale, I’m so happy they were open and able to have us. It was a highlight of Ireland for us and we dream of visiting again!
When I told everyone I was planning a trip to Ireland, no one reacted with excitement about the food. I am proud to say I had an incredible trip filled with absolutely delicious food, and we live in Portland where we take food and local farming seriously. But Finn’s has a special place in our hearts.
Thank you John & Julie, for the hundreds of little things you’re doing right. A wonderful meal isn’t only about immaculate food, but the lovely and welcoming experience it comes with. Your love comes through in so many ways, and we are so thankful we got to experience your restaurant and...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived, the hospitality at this restaurant was truly outstanding — warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The staff were incredibly kind and heartfelt, making us feel right at home throughout our entire visit.
The ribs were simply phenomenal: the meat was so tender it practically fell off the bone without any effort. Every bite was full of flavor and cooked to absolute perfection. The steak, accompanied by a selection of sauces, was beyond perfect — juicy, full of rich taste, and perfectly seasoned.
And let’s not forget the fries — crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside — a rare find these days! It’s clear that this is one of the very few places that truly understands how to make proper fries.
Even our children, who usually don’t finish their meals, happily cleaned their plates here — which says more than words ever could!
The atmosphere was equally impressive: cozy, welcoming, and perfectly suited for a relaxed, enjoyable evening.
Without a doubt, this was an exceptional dining experience that I can...
Read moreThe restaurant mixed up the garnishes on the fish dishes and we only realised half way through eating. My sister threw up in the restaurant bathroom as a result of eating the bacon (she’s in the early stages of pregnancy) that we weren’t expecting to eat and all we got off the bill was less than 2%. The maitre’d tried to suggest that the mistake could’ve been corrected by changing the garnishes but the bacon had already been eaten so I don’t see how that could have helped. A shame because the meat dishes were nice and the people serving the food were great but the maitre’d did not make us feel better in this situation. The overall bill was over €1500 so very disappointing that they’d even charge for a cup of hot water (to help settle the stomach). Was happy with the meal until needing to...
