My husband and two teenage sons had one day in Naples with our Royal Caribbean cruise. I came across Visit Amalfi Coast in my research and decided to send an email to start the conversation of how to get the most of our one day at port. I very quickly received a response and never looked back! Mario responded with incredibly thorough emails, asking questions to determine what we would like to accomplish and then suggesting options. He was clearly an expert so I followed his lead, and wow are we glad we did! Our guide Diego met us right outside of the ship a little before 7:30 and we were on our way. We had smooth sailing all the way to Positano. Not only did he offer incredible knowledge the entire way, he stopped three different times at scenic overlooks for pictures. When we got to Positano he gave us suggestions to stop at an incredible bakery and where to walk around. We had plenty of time to see what we wanted to see because there were no crowds yet! From there it was a quick ride to Sorrento. Again, Diego gave us suggestions for lunch and gelato and let us adventure on our own. We were able to sit down for a great lunch and walk the endless streets of shopping. Our next stop was Pompeii, where Diego handed us off to Luca our guide. We spent two absolutely incredible hours with Luca. He was so warm and engaging to our entire family, and gave us information I don't think you would ever get on a group tour. He called Diego when we finished, and he was there to pick us up in the super plush air conditioned van, within minutes. We ended a bit early at Pompeii so Diego suggested a ride around Napoli town square. We were so glad we did that because we had no idea of the beauty of Napoli. Diego felt like family by the end of the day. Overall, this tour was a 10/10 from start to finish. Is it an early start, yes! Was it blazing hot, yes! Was it a long day of car rides and walking, yes! Every bit of it was worth it. When you have a 15 and a 16 year old teenage boy and they get back on the ship and say "that was amazing", you know it was good. Not to mention, the price of the full day private tour was very close to the price of a group tour through the ship excursions, and we were able to see more than them! Spend the money and...
Read moreThis is our third time working with Mario & his team. When we knew we were returning to the Amalfi Coast I reached out to him first to make certain we could have his help planning our day. As with the last two times, we were thrilled with our itinerary and guide. Mario is easy to communicate with and is very responsive to questions and offering options to put together the best day for our group.
On our tour day, we unfortunately arrived late into Salerno but Alex was there waiting for us and was an absolute delight. We were going to stop at Pasticceria Sal De Riso in Minori at the start of our drive for pastries but due to the timing of other activities that got pushed to the end of the day (and it was so worth the stop!) The Mercedes van that we were in was incredibly comfortable and the AC worked well as we were there during the worst of the heat wave! Alex also had a microphone that made hearing him (and us) in the 3rd row just as if we were sitting net to him. We stopped in Ravello before the crowds arrived which was spectacular. Then on to a stop in Conca dei Marini for a quick lemon tour with the chef, Fiore, of Le Bonta del Capo. We then went to the restaurant to make limoncello with the chef who is hilarious and the activity so entertaining for our group of 7 aged 18 to 56. After the limoncello we enjoyed a delicious multi-course lunch overlooking the water. As we worked our way back to Salerno Alex stopped for pictures, was so friendly and shared such great information with us during our day. He never rushed us yet had us back at the port with ample time to spare.
Can't recommend this group enough. When I return to Napoli/Amalfi Coast they will be the ones I trust to pull together an amazing day (or days!) for me...
Read moreWe selected Mario as a guide and driver for the Amalfi Coast this November based on his reviews after our previously chosen guide became ill at the last minute. Fate dealt us a great hand! Mario was everything you could hope for in a guide – friendly, positive, attentive, super knowledgeable, full of ideas, and always prompt and on time. During our visit he revealed that he was a third-generation guide in his family – it’s clear he learned the profession well and has a true passion for it. Spending a day with him was to be immersed in Italian history! While the weather the day of our coast tour wasn’t ideal, he made the best of it, stopping for several great views and photo shoots when the clouds parted, and the sun came out. We visited some beautiful villages, he gave us plenty of time to wander and explore, and Mario went out of his way to make our visit to the Amalfi Coast a memorable and enriching experience. Beyond that, because we were visiting Herculean and Pompeii with another guide the next day, he gave us some great background and superb insight on the archeological aspects of the sites, pointers on what special places to visit, especially in Pompeii, and then offered to serve as our transportation (which we would have had to book separately anyway) for the day. Then, to top it all off, Mario dropped us at the doorstep of our Airbnb, picked us up right on time the next morning, gave us some great Napoli pizza recommendations, and all-in-all, made our trip to Naples relaxed, completely worry-free, special, and very, very memorable. If you are looking for a private guide who will literally treat you like family – in the best way possible – we highly recommend Mario! Mark & Bobbi Haney, New...
