I gave this place 3 stars because the beach is very nice as are the bartenders and I did not want to take away from that part of our experience at Calypso.
However, for the restaurant- I give it ZERO stars. My husband and I went around 2:30 to have lunch after being on the beach all morning and they sat us down at a table. They removed the table cloth and dishes from previous guests but then only put paper placemats and no dishes/silverware for us meanwhile everyone else sitting around us had proper tableware and were being served food/alcohol. After we waited a few minutes … a server came over and said they weren’t serving lunch (despite their lunch hours not ending until 3:30) and said we could only order salads. We were starving and not wanting to go anywhere else being that we were enjoying the beach, so we reluctantly ordered salads to eat something. My lettuce was soggy and drenched … there was a puddle of water at the bottom of the bowl. If I wasn’t so hungry I would have returned it. They asked if we wanted water but never asked if we wanted other drinks. They brought bread over with no little plates. My husband ordered two salads but they only brought one. Was very disappointing as we were eager to try the menu and food here. The treatment we received at the restaurant was beyond disrespectful and the only bad encounter we have received in the entire week we have been in Tropea. Not only will I never return here, I have warned our Airbnb host to not recommend this place to future guests and I also have warned our family that resides locally in Calabria to not come...
Read moreThe beach itself is rather nice, with mostly soft sand, and small pebbles towards the northern end.
We visited the Bar on several occasions during a week's stay in Tropea, renting sun loungers on a couple of occasions, which were inexpensive during May (€12), though prices rise each month as visitor numbers increase.
There are around 50 or so loungers on the sand, plus a similar number on the bar terrace.
The bar itself serves a small variety of meals and drinks, which are inexpensive, at least compared to UK prices. eg: €3 for a beer, €4 for a glass of wine, €7-10 for a pizza from a wood fired oven.
Toilets are available for customers.
The setting is quite idyllic on a sunny day, with clear blue sea,...
Read moreWe spent the day here and reserved two sunbeds for €20, which was a great value — definitely one of the best locations in the area for beach access and relaxing by the sea. For lunch, we ordered a Margherita pizza and a mozzarella salad. The pizza was okay, but the salad felt a bit underwhelming, with iceberg lettuce that tasted a bit cheap. That said, the portion of mozzarella was decent. The drinks were the highlight — we ordered throughout the day and really enjoyed that part of the experience. Overall, a good spot for a beach day, with some room for improvement on...
