Lido Blanca Beach — Local services in Tropea

The Tropea Blanca is a little away from the city near the Rocca Nettuno hotel. It is a nice place for being at a beach. However, you would need swimming shoes as the shore is filled with stones which make the entrance into the sea a little bothersome. The staff does not show the famous Italian hospitality at all. If you are a guest of a contracted hotel, the grumpy lifeguard would always push you in the last, always shady row of umbrellas. Only if you pay another 30 € you are allowed to enter the sunny front rows. This policy is not written somewhere but we have experienced this every day. The bathrooms are worn out, smelly and dirty. You couldn’t close the door of the handicapped bathroom from the inside. Soap was missing over two weeks and no disinfectants whatsoever during pandemic. The food was bad and overpriced, same for the drinks.

Siamo stati al Blanca Beach di Tropea convinti di trovare uno stabilimento all’altezza della sua immagine curata. Quello che abbiamo trovato è stato invece un luogo dove l’apparenza supera nettamente la sostanza, con un servizio più interessato a giudicare il cliente che a farlo sentire il benvenuto. All’arrivo, ci è stata assegnata una postazione in seconda fila senza alcuna richiesta di preferenze, con una spiaggia sporca e piena di alghe. Non solo: il nostro lettino era a ridosso di un’area di lavoro. Il bagnino ha posizionato una scala accanto a noi e ha iniziato a lavorare. A pranzo, il menù riportava prezzi discutibili: non si può pensare di far pagare un primo 25€ o un secondo 35€ in quello che di fatto è un bar sulla spiaggia. La qualità del cibo inoltre non giustificava minimamente il costo.

Ma l’aspetto più spiacevole è arrivato dopo. Ho chiesto di spostarci al sole per il caffè perché al tavolo all’ombra in cui eravamo avevo freddo : richiesta accolta, ma al momento del servizio ci è stato detto “mi raccomando passate poi in cassa a pagare”, con un tono decisamente fuori luogo. Poco dopo abbiamo notato lo stesso cameriere indicarci a una collega, che si è girata a guardarci esplicitamente. Alla mia domanda (posta con educazione) su cosa stesse succedendo, ci è stato risposto che è “procedura standard controllare che il cliente non scappi senza pagare”. In cassa, si sono scusati e ci hanno spiegato che in passato hanno avuto clienti che non hanno pagato e “fanno così con tutti, anche con i finanzieri” (altro scivolone classista).

Ora, non sappiamo se la nostra colpa fosse stata presentarci in maglietta Patagonia e Birkenstock piuttosto che in completo di lino e mocassini Loro Piana, ma se la fiducia verso i clienti si misura in base al dress code da spiaggia, forse il problema non siamo noi. Forse trattare con sospetto chi ha appena pranzato, giudicare in base all’aspetto e compensare un servizio scarso con sorrisi forzati non è lusso, è eleganza cheap ostentata e provincialismo con pretese. Un luogo che punta all’alta gamma dovrebbe saper offrire, prima di tutto, una vera cultura dell’accoglienza e prendere esempio da posti ben più esclusivi e...

I booked a space at the back to protect me from the all day sun. 93 and 94 right next to the steps and showers. Stayed all day and a really good time. Beach shoes are a must, to get in and out of the sea. Well another day here and so far just disappointment😠.. I Booked last night 4 laylows with two unbrellas, in the rear row. So i dont have to sit in the sun all day long. Get here today to be told all the rear row are booked but non in my name. Had to pay 10 Euro more💶. RIP OFF. Added a photo as proof that all the laylow in the rear row are not in use. We arrived at 10:45 it is now 12:43. We left at 15:30 and only one of the laylows...
