In the Booking.com confirmation for Il Torrione the longitude and latitude references were given, so we were smart and plotted that into our GPS. WRONG DECISION. We were guided onto an extremely bumpy dirt road that finally ended up in a road block showing road closed. Apparantly a flooding 2 years ago had damaged the road. ||We called Il Torrione, and although nobody spoke much English, we learned that the main entrance is through the small town of Saturnia. After that, everything went smoothly.||||The homepage shows a traditional Italian house, but only breakfast is served there. All the guestrooms are in a separate building 100 meters away. Be sure to book the rooms having a valley view. The swimming pool was excellent, and while swimming you enjoy overlooking the landscape beyond.||||The owners are very nice, but they were rather quick to recommend the restaurant Da Mario in the small town of Saturnia up the hill. We went there, but were not very impressed. The next evening we had pizzas in "il Melangolo" on the main square in Saturnia, and that proved to be the worst pizzas we have ever tried. Read moreVisited in the first week of October, 2019. Was given a room with the epic view of the valley. The view itself is so epic that it takes your breath away each time you set eyes on it. People on here have listed the room as a negative point but, really, the rooms are perfectly fine and let's be honest; that's not why you're here and you know it. You're here for that epic view and the sunbed where you can laze all day and gaze upon it. The breakfast is lovely and the staff here are amazing and exceedingly good guests. Read moreThe best place I stayed.There are some rules to respect but there is nothing abnormal. The best breakfast,the cleanest pool. The attention to detail is astonishing. Just buy the local wine and drink by the pool on the sunbeds. Only breakfast is served,no lunch or dinner but it will take you 5-10 minutes on foot to the center where you can find severals restaurants.I recommend Saturnalia( medium prices 40 -50 eur per person) or Il due Cippi(hight price and quality restaurant 100eur per person).
