Yume no Soba — Local services in Himeji

Great little soba shop. Hidden on the second floor with barely a visible sign on the street. Only room for five or six at the counter. They didn't have a huge variety, but enough. The flavor of the soba and broth was exceptional. They did not speak much English but their ordering machine did have English translation. Our smiling faces communicated all that was needed. The fried rice ball was amazing. Maybe we were just hungry after hiking around the castle and gardens in the heat, but this place really hit the spot and is exactly the kind of small family owned restaurant that I love...

The restaurant is tucked away in the street and requires going up into an elevator. It’s a small space and probably fits in about 8 customers max. Food is ordered through paying a machine and handing the owner the ticket dispensed from the machine.

This was an outstanding find on a hot day. Buckwheat noodles, oden, and everything else were delicious. It is a very small restaurant and only seats six. We were fortunate, though. Our family of four showed up, while three others were already dining. We told the chef that we would wait until the others were finished; however, she pulled in another chair for us.
