指宿枕崎線の駅で、鹿児島中央駅まで3駅です。 このあたりは鹿児島市電も並行していて、近くに電停もありますが、そちらは脇田と名前が違います。 同じ九州には、大分県臼杵市に同じ読みの臼杵駅があるのですが、そちらはうすきの「すき」をハートマークに置き換えた駅名標があるのに対して、こちらはそういったものは全くありません。 まあ知名度が違うので、おかしいとは思いませんが。 駅周辺は狭いのですが、トイレはありました。 鹿児島近郊の駅で乗降客はそれなりにいるようです。
