If you're looking for an absolutely honest, authentic and no frills udon meal (way) away from Kyoto crowds, this might be the spot for you. The delightful senior owners seem to cater mostly to the locals and know how to cook up deep, rich broths both for shrimp/vegetable tempura, and green onion/beef. The udon is tasty, the firmness just so. No English spoken but some deft Google translate work from the staff gets you exactly what you crave. A little hidden gem near Saiin Station. They’re only open from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The shop owners are very nice and friendly and got us our food quickly. I had the tempura udon and it was only 800 yen. Instead of water, they have tea on the house. I liked the old Japanese restaurant asthenic and vide of the restaurant.
