Kyoto Kimono Rental Gion Nishiki - Gion Store — Local services in Kyoto

When I was searching for a good kimono rental place I found some of the other reviews lost a lot of detail in translation so here is a review from an American, I hope others find it helpful. Also some tips.

First off, they offer a 100 yen discount if you give a 5 star review on google which I find dishonest. But I'm still giving them 5 stars because I think it is exceptional value for money. Make sure you book online, it is a lot cheaper. The website is in Japanese, so just use google translate. This place is a business! There were many girls and couples in the store but the whole process from arrival to leaving the store only took about 45 minutes for both of us. They also gave us plenty of time to pick a kimono and I didn't feel rushed. It is worth it to get your hair done. The styles are very complex but the stylists are very skilled and take less than 5 minutes. My hair felt very secure all day. Hair was only an extra 1000 yen which at the time was about 6 usd extra. Insanely cheap for what you get. You don't have to wear the shoes they give you. This is obvious but still, I can't imagine walking 15,000 steps a day in those things. They do not look comfortable. I did a lot of comparing kimono rentals and this place was the cheapest for all of the items you get. I found a kimono that I really liked and they had a decent amount to choose from. You have to change in front of other people so if this makes you uncomfortable wear spandex or something, or ask them to change in private. Also they size you up and hand you whatever size undergarment they think you are so if you are sensitive just be aware. Just because they are so fast paced here and slightly limited with english I don't know if this is the best place for accommodations for those who are plus sized or very tall. Yes, you do have to pay for damages if you get the kimonos dirty. We had a full day of exploring Gion and just were extra careful when we ate lunch and it was fine, I think they are used to normal wear and tear. Just be cautious and respectful when you are wearing the kimono. The kimono is HOT. I don't know if I would wear one if it is above 85 degrees. It was 75 and cloudy when we were out and about and returned the garments to them sweaty (but so did all the other women). Still, be aware! Opt for a yukata if you know it will...

【予約】 午前中の予約を前日の夜中にネット予約しましたが、しっかり対応していただけました。 ※念のため、営業時間を待って電話確認を入れました。 忙しい時間の連絡にも関わらず、丁寧に対応いただきました。

【お着物】 お着物の種類は多く、男性のお着物の色や帯のデザインも豊富でした。 レンタル小物は無料のものもありますが、しっかりしたものを持ちたいのであればプラス料金などでこちょこちょと料金が嵩んでしまいます。 しかし、そもそもの基本料金がかなり安く設定されているので、全てレンタル品で拘るなら結局他店と同じくらい？なので、その辺りも考慮に入れるといいかも。 足袋は薄手の足袋靴下なので、履くのは簡単ですが、しっかり着たい方は足袋を持参がおススメです。(商店街の呉服店で足袋だけ簡単に購入できますよ) 鞄は巾着の貸し出しがありますが、あまり可愛くないので、貴重品などが入るサイズでお気に入りの小さめバッグがある方は持参をオススメします。

利用した時期が春前のまだ寒い時期だったので、貼るカイロを腰あたりに貼って居たのですが、帯で押さえつけると火傷してしまうので背中の上部に貼ると良いと言って貼り直してくださいました。 ※1人1枚サービスがあったような気がしますが、要確認です。

【ヘアセット】 ヘアセットの種類は少ないですが、メニューが決まっている分、手際よくセットしてくださいます。 髪の長さが人により違うので、多少のアレンジは受け付けてくださる感じでした。 また、私の場合は髪質が重くコシがあって崩れやすいなどの懸念があったので、ピンを多めにしたり、スプレーをしっかりめにしてもらうなどご対応いただきました。 かんざしなどは有料ですが、持ち込みなら無料で大丈夫ですので、お気に入りがある方は是非ご持参されることをお勧めします。

【アフターフォロー】 また、パートナーが着替えの際にインナーを忘れてしまい、恰幅を出すためのタオルを肌へ直に巻いていただいた様ですが、ゴワゴワのタオルだったため観光中に擦れて痛くなってしまい、スケジュールを変更してお店まで戻ることに… 系列店舗が近くにあったのですが、対応不可とのことで、痛くて外したタオルを小脇に抱えて移動する羽目に… 浴衣も着たことない男性に「手ぶらで大丈夫だから和服着ようよ」としか言ってなかった私も悪いのですが、ゴワゴワのタオルを直巻きではなく、サラシなどガーゼを巻いていただけると良かったかなと思います。

しかし、このタオルを返却に一時戻った際、大変丁寧に対応いただき、本人はタオルを返すだけのつもりが、「擦りむけたりお怪我はございませんでしたか？」「崩れたお着物を直させていただきますのでお上がりください」「他にお困り事ありませんか？」「わざわざお戻りありがとうございます」「彼女様もご不便ございませんか？」など、気遣いが素晴らしかったです。

序盤に記載した薄手の足袋靴下についても、パートナーは和服慣れしておらず、鼻緒の所を痛がっていたのですが、一度戻ってお直し中に受付の男性へ「厚手の物があれば買いたいのですが…」と申し出たところ、「破れなどのご不便ありましたか？」と聞かれ、「鼻緒ずれを痛がっておりまして…」とお伝えすると「厚手の物はご用意がないのですが、もう一足重ね履きしていただくと楽になりますのでどうぞ」と、こちらも追加料金をお支払いしようとしたのですが、ご厚意で追加料金無しで対応していただけました。 お直しと重ね履きにより、かなり痛みが楽になった様で、その後の観光も楽になったみたいです。 ※念のため、痛い部分に手持ちの絆創膏を貼ってから重ね履きしてもらいました。

ほぼ歩き中心での観光でかなり動き回ったのですが、男性のタオルを抜いた事以外では特に着崩れなどはなく快適でした。

【返却】 夕方、着物を返却しに戻った際も、手際よく対応いただきました。 大変丁寧な気遣いのお言葉をおかけいただき、改めてお店まで戻る事になった事などを謝罪頂きました。 ヘアセットもそのまま帰るのですが、大きく崩れかけている部分などはピンを追加して留め直してくださるなどの気遣いをいただき、退店後のディナータイムも楽しめました。

【まとめ】 基本的には手ぶらで全て整いますが、こだわる方は足袋・バッグ・髪飾りの持参と、インナーを着用必須、この辺りがポイントになるかと思います。 駅からも遠くないうえ、スタッフの対応は素晴らしかったので、この料金であ...
