The location of the hotel is great; everything we wanted to do was either within walking distance or we could easily catch a bus by walking less than 5 minutes. I will note that we stayed on weekday nights and heard some of the bar activity early in the morning. Your experience may vary on a weekend (but if you like bar hopping then this is 100% the place to stay)
The bath and shower were both pretty spacious compared to other hotels we stayed at on our trip. The AC and air purifier both did a good job of keep the room comfortable. We did not like the pillows provided but used our own travel pillows combined with the provided pillows to sleep comfortably enough.
What made Kyoto Gion Hotel a great place to stay was the staff. Hands down, the friendliest, hardest working, and most helpful staff at any hotel I have ever stayed at. We had our bags shipped here from our previous hotel and the gentleman who checked us in had already placed our bags in our room when we arrived. We needed to extend our check out by an hour and there was no issue resolving that. Finally, and by far the biggest help, we shipped our bags from here to Narita Airport and the woman working the desk that morning filled out each packing slip for our suitcases, then called the airport and verified where in the airport we would need to go.
Very glad we found this hotel and we will be staying again if we...
Read moreOne of my favourite hotels during my trip! We paid SGD120 per night in December 2023 and it was great value considering the location. I didn’t realise it when we booked, but this hotel is a 10 min walk to Yasaka Shrine, which was great because we had a Kimono rental and did not have time to travel to the other shrines in Kyoto. There is also a convenience store located beside Yasaka shrine, which is great for your late night snack run.I loved the private environment of the hotel, and how the sunlight shines through the shoji windows in the morning. The hotel feels really cozy and the bed is extra comfortable and feels like a premium hotel bed.Do take note that to get to this hotel, you will need to get on a bus from Kyoto station and it is about a 15-20 mins walk from the bus stop - for your consideration if you are bringing elderly and children or heavy luggage. Although considering this, this hotel is still highly...
Read moreSmall hotel in the middle of Gion, close to the Main Street, Yasaka Shrine, Tatsumi bridge. Spotless, great service, beautiful rooms, elevator, it look of new or just renovated. You can walk to metro/train station or bus stations, you can go walking to Ponpocho park and all the restaurants and to Nishiki Market, also we walked to Sennenzaka and Ninnesaka a little more far away but you can go walking too.
Hotel give you amenities including pj’s, toothbrush, hairbrush, slippers, etc. The hotel has a laundry room at 2nd floor (lobby) and beside the hotel there is a Lawsons. Also some restaurants across the street and at the Main Street full of restaurants, usually the restaurants open late after 11 am, so you have few options for breakfast, there is a Tully’s cafe at the corner and a starburst close from there five minutes...
