The Ultimate Kyoto-Osaka Shopping Guide 🛍️ Big reveal! How to shop till you drop at drugstores 😜 Before my Japan trip, I did extensive research. Spent 2 days in Kyoto and 4 in Osaka, but most of my shopping was done in Kyoto. Some items in Kyoto's drugstores are indeed cheaper than Osaka's, but many popular products are only available in Osaka. Also, make sure to hit up Sundrug in Shinkyogoku for the basics like cotton pads, which are ¥106 (~$0.60) a pack. In Osaka, the cheapest I found was around ¥220, so I stocked up on 6 packs in Kyoto. They were hidden in a corner and no one was buying them 😂. The volume was too much to carry more back. Eye drops were also cheaper here. Sundrug is definitely the cheapest in Kyoto. I also shopped at Tsuruha, which had more variety but was pricier. For example, Nivea lotion was ¥365 at Sundrug and ¥498 at Tsuruha. There was also a difference in stockings; the cheapest Atugo in Osaka was ¥400, but the shades were darker. However, as other Red Book users mentioned, branded items have uniform prices. For instance, Kissme eyeliner is ¥1000, and Revital面膜金罐 is ¥2800, 粉罐 is ¥3200, same in both Kyoto and Osaka. I visited all the major drugstores: Daikoku, Tsuruha, Kokuho, Matsumoto Kiyoshi, Don Quijote, and Sundrug. Sundrug and Daikoku seemed the cheapest, Tsuruha had a wide selection, and the staff in white coats looked very professional. Matsumoto Kiyoshi also had a lot of products but was a bit pricier. Don Quijote was the most chaotic but fun to browse with a variety of items. I bought contact lenses there. According to the guide, it's the place to go for lenses. I chose the Revia brand, picked colors from the swatch, and selected diameters around 14 for a natural look. Filled out the form with my prescription, and it was done. The comfort was great, and the Grace color, inspired by Namie Amuro, was very natural, not as harsh as some Chinese lenses. Some meds to recommend: 1. Shoulder and neck relief liquid (I hurt my back before the trip and used this. The next day, my back was still warm, great lasting effect). 2. Foot patches for tired feet. I walked over 15,000 steps daily and found these very soothing, with a nice yuzu scent. 3. Mote eyeliner and mascara. This brand was recommended in a blog post. Around ¥90, it contains beauty serum, and the mascara gives a natural look, second only to my CPB mascara. 4. Sabrina stockings. Superb quality, cheaper than Atugo. I also bought a lot of Kanebo products. Prices varied from ¥700 to ¥400, so I grabbed a few whenever I saw a good deal. CPB and POLA are mostly found in large department stores like Takashimaya. CPB's cleanser and POLA's pills were out of stock. Tutuanna's socks are ¥1000 for three pairs. Their leggings and camisoles are amazing. The ice-silk fabric feels cool. The left leggings have a lifting effect for ¥60, and the right ones are a regular cool style for a bit cheaper. The camisole has adjustable straps and cute lace, only ¥40. #JapanShopping #KyotoShopping #OsakaShopping #DrugstoreFinds #TravelTips #JapanTravel #ShoppingGuide #TravelEssentials #JapanBeauty #DrugstoreHauls
