Wonderful experience. Getting there: Nanchattei is located at a house in a quiet residential neighborhood near Nara park. After visiting Nara park, we walked there using Google Maps as a guide. We had not given ourselves enough time to get there and had to rush a bit. If you go, be sure to give yourself enough time so that you can take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful area and get into a serene state of mind. When you arrive, don’t expect a large commercial sign or anything like that, it looks like the other houses in the area. Once you walk into the driveway you should see a white Noren (cloth that hangs in front of the door) with the same logo/writing found on their website. Experience: We really enjoyed observing and participating in the tea ceremony. Our teacher first beautifully executed the serving of tea. Once served, she instructed us on the proper etiquette first demonstrating then guiding us on what to do. The whole experience was so interesting and gave me a new appreciation for the artistry of the tea ceremony. If you have never experienced a tea ceremony, I highly recommend this experience as an introduction to this beautiful art.

We had our tea ceremony on a rainy day in early June, and the atmosphere at Nanchattei was very warm and welcoming! The ladies have been very kind and helped us in choosing a kimono among their incredible selection. Getting dressed was very fun, we definitely recommend this experience! The interior of the tea room makes you feel like you are in another era. And finally, the ceremony itself really makes you understand how much history is behind every single gesture and every sip of matcha tea. This was our first tea ceremony ever, and yet we cannot imagine a better place where enjoying this experience! Absolutely recommended if you are in Nara. Thank you!!

We had the BEST experience at Nanchattei! The ladies were so warm and welcoming, fitted us perfectly for our kimonos and yukatas (so detail oriented!) and modeled a beautiful traditional tea ceremony for us. The experience was personal as it was only my family of four, we loved every minute! Thank you for teaching us a little more about Japanese culture and tradition, this was a memory we will never forget!

Oh what a wonderful experience! The ladies were so kind, sweet and welcoming. I feel we got more than I was expecting and very good value for money being able to take our beautiful Kimonos home. From start to finish, we were looked after and they made sure we felt at ease.

I booked the Kimono tea ceremony for myself, partner and 6-year old daughter. They had a kimono for her! I did send an email to ask ahead of time and they were responsive. She absolutely adores her Kimono/Yukata and looks forward to wearing it in Australia.

She taught us when to do what, what to say (and she broke it down in easy to say chunks) and let us just enjoy watched her be so gracefully and precise with her movements.

Thank you again. Highly recommend. It's was a lovely little walk away from the bustle, which gave the place such...
