Great collection of sake! We went in for the tasting and you get 5 different types of sake + a bonus sparkling one (they give a very generous pour too!) for 500yen. At the end of the tasting, the provided some pickled dishes that was locally made, which was such a nice touch. Definitely worth it and highly recommended! I enjoyed them so much that I left with their beautiful sake glasses and 3 bottles of their sake to bring home.
I'm taking out 2 stars since I bought 4 of their sake glasses in each color (purple, green, blue and pink) but unfortunately, they did not give me the right colors. They ended up giving me two greens (which was my least favorite color) and no purple (my favorite one). I only found out about this mishap when I arrived back in my hotel room in Osaka so I can't go back to exchange the right color.
It was truly a very disappointing finding for me since I was really excited about these glasses, especially the purple one since it's my favorite color. So please make sure you double check your purchases if you intend on buying anything from them!
UPDATE (2024-01-25): I've changed my review to 5-stars for their excellent customer service.
I have a friend visiting Tokyo so I had placed an online order for the purple cup to complete my set (and ordered a couple more sets since I love them so much). My first attempt didn't go through (not the store's fault, I had made a mistake and didn't complete the order correctly). When I contacted them for order confirmation, they promptly responded with clear instructions on how to correctly place the order.
After my second attempt to place the order (which succeeded!), the store manager immediately emailed me to confirm my order. And to my great surprise, she asked if I am the same person that visited their store and left the Google review. I was very impressed since they remembered my review from over 2 months ago, especially since I didn't mention anything about it in my email - so they must've just remembered solely from my name! When I confirmed that she was correct, she advised that she will be sending an extra purple cup to my order as a gift just like she mentioned on her response to my original review.
I really appreciate the care and attention they give to their customers and really commend their manager, Ms. Haruko Fukase. Not only do they have taken my feedback and use it to improve their customer satisfaction, they also put so much consideration to each order that they recognize me just from my name through a Google review!
Their customer service is definitely top notch and this is a big bonus since their sake is amazingly delicious as well. If I am ever in Nara, I will definitely come back...
Read moreWe love Japan but it’s places like this that that make it frustrating. We arrived half and hour before closing and or actually 29 minutes and they wouldn’t give us a tasting as the tastings stopped one minute before we arrived. We had walked 40 minutes to get here and nothing. Then I asked the proprietor to hail us a taxi as we needed to return to Osaka by 6pm for a dinner reservation and he said it would take more than thirty minutes to get one even with an added fee they wanted to charge. We walked out front and hailed one in less than three minutes. No idea if the Sake is good and I no longer care. There are hundreds of wonderful Sake breweries in Japan and most are much more accommodating than this. Unfortunately a tiny handful of places have serious attitudes here. The US has a lot of issues for sure but it would never happen in Los Angeles where we live. its our last day, can’t say I’m unhappy heading home. There’s an arrogance here that’s not really seen anywhere...
Read moreIts amazing place Established in 1884, this sake brewery in Naramachi produces some of Nara’s best known sakes, sold internationally. The main building was originally a residence for a senior monk at Kohfukuji Temple, until it was given to the Imanishi family in 1924. You can tour the house and garden for a small fee and there is a cafe offering sweets and light lunch sets. In the shop next door, you can do a tasting of five different sakes for ¥500, with a souvenir glass to keep. Large groups need to make a reservation. Brewery tours can be taken on weekends in February, before the production gets too busy.
This brewery was visited by me with my friends . The best part about this place is that we get to taste 5 different types of sake and all the taste of all sakes was refreshing. The staff gave us our favourite color sake cup as a souvenir. Food was nice and service was quick. I would definitely...
