Elevated zen delicious soba place with tatami seating and normal wooden chairs and tables.
The interior is minimalist with mainly wood, concrete and glass textures (there's a nice view of the bonsai outdoors from the small windows within the shop). The tatami seats are located deeper inside the restaurant while the wooden chairs and tables and located nearer to the entrance.
You can choose either hot or cold soba and there's also soba desserts! We tried the hot curry soba and the cold prawn tempura soba and both were pretty good (but I'll definitely recommend the cold tempura soba!) The curry is the normal Japanese curry & not the Hokkaido soup curry but it's warming during cold weather (came with chicken but the portion of chicken was a little lacking imo). The cold soba came with a hearty huge bowl of soba with dipping sauce (with wasabi) and lots of fried fresh ingredients such as fried eggplant, fried green peppers, fried assorted vegetables and fried prawns! The prawns were really huge and good! The soba tasted like hand made soba and tasted firmer than the usual soba! Remember to add a little bit of wasabi into the dipping sauce cause it's really refreshing this way!
The price came up to 4000-5000 yen in total (not cheap but...
Read moreFound this soba place about 15 min walk from the park so it was out of the way for most tourists and not a big line up. Make sure you add your name to the waiting list in front as we didn't know and stood there for a few minutes until we saw someone do it. Soba is very traditional and flavourful. Had the curry one and it was really good. Portion was a bit small for my order. Others on the menu looked bigger. It is more expensive than other places but most of the customers were Japanese so we knew it to be more authentic. They have an English menu and provided...
Read moreA long-established Soba noodle restaurant since Y1918 in Kushiro city and moved to Maruyama, Sappro city in Y1964. Their soba style is inherited from very popular soba restaurant 「Azumaya Chikurouen」in Kushito city. They were open only for To-Go on the new year's eve (not to eat-in) 12/31/2021. I recommend to call in to reserve the soba for To-Go few days in advance because the availibility of soba noodles is limited. I went in without calling, but lucky enough to purchase 1 pack (for 2people) of soba (comes with soba sauce, scallions, & wasabi). Also, shrimp tempura was available. There were waiting lines, but didn't take a long. I waited only few min. The waiting lnes were seperate, one to order/ to get soba and the another line to make payment. Staff was very kind. I want to go back there again for another round of soba. A highly recommended.
