The reviews on the Kumano Travel website are accurate. The facility is very rundown inside and out. There is no evidence of any maintenance in the last five years. The public areas are dirty, threadbare carpets etc. The onsen was disgusting - not usable. Fortunately the onsen at Minshuku Adamaya across the road is available to guests, and this was better, but still not well maintained or clean. |The guestrooms were spacious, and clean enough. Hot water for tea was provided in a jug. There was a wash basin in the room, not clean, with one cold tap but only a dribble of water. It was in a small alcove, with one broken light fitting, and was at knee height - hardly useable.|The shared bathrooms were awful. Two urinals, both out of order, with the paper 'out of order' signs dissolved into a mushy heap in the bottom of the urinals. The two toilet cubicles were adequate. The men's bathroom had one hand basin, cold water only. The women's bathroom had no hand washing facilities. ||The view out the window across the local stream could have been very pretty, but the stream banks were full of rubbish, old building materials and debris. ||The only positive features were the friendly 'reception' person, and the excellent meals, which thankfully were a standard far in excess of the...
Read moreIts very dated but as I said in my previous reviews, I like to stay in these old hotels once in a while. Its a very Japanese style minshuku - shared bath and toilets, taitaimi beds, shared kitchen, old onset, sliding paper doors, etc and you feel like you are back in time.||||Accomodations in yunomine onsen(hotels with onset are expensive) and this one is reasonable priced and has a large parking lot just outside. It is in a very good location and walking distance to the public onsen. Its a sister hotel to the Ryokan Adumayaso close by and I am pleased to allow to be able to use the baths in Ryokan Adumyaso free of charge.||||Sheets are clean but quilt is old style and is kind of heavy(no complain) like the ones you have when you are a kid. There is a common kitchen which we did not use and baths are in the basement - small, old but ok for me. Or you can always go the sister ryokan to use the nice one. The onsen has hana flower and is special and one of a kind. We were the only guests staying there and the place is quiet and we had a very good night sleep.||||Owner speaks only Japanese, not particularly friendly but no problem for me. I think its a good budget to stay or check out its sister hotel for a more...
Read moreHonestly, the stay isn’t as bad as the other reviews say. You can expect a basic Japanese room - futon beds, low rise table, complimentary tea and snacks upon arrival and a tv set. Yes, the onsen in this guesthouse is in a very bad condition (I wouldn’t use it myself), but you’re able to use the onsen in their sister hotel adzumaya ryokan which is just located opposite. They have really decent private onsen, public indoor and outdoor onsen. We had a wonderful time dipping in their outdoor onsen on a cool spring day!
We opted for the homecooked dinner and breakfast set which was the most wonderful thing during our stay - the meal was curated and cooked with so much care and effort, I felt so taken care of after a long hike at the Kumano kodo trail. The owner/managers are also super friendly & warm. Highly...
