Me and my partner stumbled upon this place on a special day. I had just proposed to her on a hike, and we just got out of the private onsen nearby. So were very happy, and keen to find a place to have a drink and call our family to give them the good news. We only intended to stay for 30 minutes or so. During our time in Wakayama we discovered a love for plum wine, so we ordered a glass here while sitting on the table outside. The plum wine came at a very good price, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. They also spoke 10+ languages between them. The plum wine was so good we decided to have some more, and then a beer. At this point we were happy, and a bit tipsy, happily chatting with our families to share the good news. Then I ended up meeting Aki, the store owner. He was very welcoming, and recommended we try the unpasteurised sake. We were a bit too tipsy so appreciated the recommendation but didn’t order one. Then I believe the staff told Aki we just got engaged, because he came out and offered us two glasses of sake, both a sweet one and the unpasteurised one. What was meant to be a short 30 minute beer ended up being a wholesome night, with maaany delicious drinks at a fair price. I tried their IPA and also really enjoyed it. We probably ended up being the drunk customers that might be a bit too friendly, but I hope the staff understood it came from our appreciation for their service and welcoming environment. Truly recommend this place if you find yourself in Yunomine Onsen after a hike.
P.S. sorry for forgetting the name of the other two staff members, I blame the alcohol, but we really appreciated your welcoming and friendly vibe....
Read moreJust a few weeks old, I think this is the best thing that ever happened to Yunomine onsen! The owner said this is the first ever bar/ resto of its kind in Yunomime onsen. When we were preparing for our trip, most reviews and videos about yunomine will tell you to buy food and drinks prior because most ryokans dont serve food so we were glad to see this place by the road near the bus stop. This place has a warm friendly vibe and becomes a hangout place at night where guests and fellow hikers converge and share stories. The cocktails are good and they serve steamed meat and vegetables which are reasonably priced. Visit them when in...
