My little brother and I went to do a 2 hour shared boat fishing trip (captain's recommendation). We actually booked it the midnight before and were worried that we wouldn't be able to go because we booked it so last minute, but we were quickly informed that our reservation was accepted. We arrived 30 minutes before the reserved time to gear up, and then promptly set off into the bay.
The trip was a lot of fun! I'm pretty much a complete beginner with fishing (I've only unsuccessfully fished a few times from the shore, I've never fished from a boat and I've never actually successfully caught a fish lol), but even I was able to catch a lot of fish. The captain provided rental rods and lures/hooks, and we went fishing for horse mackerel. We ended up catching a whole bucket of horse mackerel, sardines, some other fish (I don't know their names, but they were all edible) and one sweetlips. We went in the afternoon so these were the fish available, but I think if you go at different times in the day there are different kinds of fish. We actually caught so much fish that we started to release some of the sardines back to the water lol. Don't worry if you're a beginner - the captain can help with unhooking the fish too if that makes you nervous haha.
I'm very prone to seasickness, but I didn't feel it at all during this trip. I can speak a little Japanese but my little brother can't speak Japanese at all - despite that, we were both able to have a lot of fun, and the captain's fishing demonstrations were clear and understandable. The captain attentively made sure that we were clear on how to use the gear and made conversation with us :) Even if you're traveling to Japan and aren't fluent in Japanese, I'm sure that you can have a great time on this trip.
Afterwards, we gave most of our fish to the other group in our shared fishing boat (we were staying in a hotel and didn't have a good way to store them), but kept some to eat at a restaurant that the captain recommended (the restaurant is about 30 minutes away by train). He kindly helped us make a reservation in advance so all we had to do was show up with the fish and they prepared tempura, sashimi, and aji fry (breaded fried horse mackerel).
We would love to come again and fish with Playful Fishing and...
