A Malaysian specialty the pasar malam (night mart). This one is located at Tmn Ipoh Jaya (Gunung Rapat). Operate every Monday night from 5.30pm. This is a mostly Chinese area so it's not surprising that most stalls are of Chinese ethnicity. There are Malay stalls too but the majority caters to the Chinese. A wide variety of street food is available. Among the more unique ones are stinky to fu, paper wrapped braised chicken, pandan coconut apam balik and bak chang. Prices are reasonable. Lots of common pasar malam goods. Seasonal goods like durian also available. Crowded place especially during festive seasons. Not everyone cup of tea but those who like the crowd atmosphere, the bargains and the occasional surprises will delight in visiting it.

Went at about 5.30pm. Many stalls were still setting up. Very local market since like most Malaysia Pasar Malam, selling from clothes, groceries, poultry, raw fresh seafood, food and more food. Tried the stinky toufu. Nice and crispy. Didn’t smell the stink. We tried a variety of other food as well. We ate the prawn paste-pig skin-fish ball. The food is flavourful with satay like peanut taste paste over the food. I recommend to go later after 7pm to experience more of the stalls.

Not located in Gunung Rapat but it's just close by at Ipoh Jaya. Many new stalls which are hip and also delicious. Well managed and has both malay and chinese stalls. Fresh produce, meat and food. Do visit if you are lost for dinner ideas.

Quite a big market. But it lacks excitement. Food is slightly overpriced. We tried Assam Laksa, sold by an old couple. It was a total rip-off. No onions, no pineapple and all the usual condiments. The soup was tasteless save the tamarind. The char kuih kak was so so. Prices weren't really...
