Unimpressed and I would not recommend the organization.
We were very careful to be there before 5pm to make the last potential climbing session and had a traffic time to get there but we made it at 4.55pm on Friday 9th January 2015. As we walked in a friendly young man asked if we were there to Clip and Climb. Discussion followed as the staff we going home, the young man appeared willing to work as he was paid until 5.30 but the woman on the desk was another experience. They had not had sufficient up take (even during the school holidays) booking was essential. I explained we were out of town joining husband for a business day trip, had checked their website and were we believed fitting their requirements. She was rude, abrupt and did not care that my party of 5 which included 3 eager children would have done anything for a few minutes of fun. I would have paid top price ride their slide at any cost as a proxy for climbing but no just blunt rude and not commercial. The young man would have been another story but was not going to argue with her. She was just recalcitrant: we were wrong as the potential customer/tourist and she was right. A funny surprising sort of attitude given that they seem to want to be in the business space of offering entertainment and experiences. And don't try to find "The ROXX Centre" up above the entry door as the website boasts this branding but the entry door has YMCA Adventure and ClipnClimb. A good reason for us not being there earlier was that even with Google maps research under my belt it was not that easy to find, park and get to the place with little excited people who then spent 40 minutes crying with disappointment not understanding the whole interaction. Good thing the Tram conductor was so amazing at his job. He turned our night around. I write a little over a week after this experience as I am still astounded at the event. The website seems to have since been updated stating 4pm is the last and bookings are always essential. I can tell you they mean this! But in truth I am amazed if bookings are so essential then why can you not do them online like you can for places like The Esplanade Surf School and Cadbury World. I think one star is still too much but this was what it took to post. It might be a world class facility but our experience was anything but...
Read moreA Fantastic Leaders Climbing Course – Highly Recommend!
We both recently completed the Leaders Climbing Course at the Kind Foundation Adventure Centre and loved it! The small group size made a huge difference — there was plenty of time for individual questions, practice, and in-depth guidance.
The course content was spot on: well-paced, practical, and touched on all the essential areas without ever feeling overwhelming. I especially appreciated the two-session format, which gave time for things to settle and allowed us to build confidence and understanding between sessions.
A special mention has to go to our instructor, Will. He was absolutely outstanding — calm, knowledgeable, and incredibly experienced, even if he never made a big deal about it. Will has a gentle, encouraging teaching style that made the learning environment feel safe and supportive, and he never missed a detail. He even took time to show us a few extra skills when we were curious — a real bonus!
The whole experience at the centre was positive and well run. If you’re considering a climbing course, I can’t recommend...
Read moreIf you are into your climbing don't bother going here.. Possibly one of the worst climbing gyms I have ever been to.
The routes and all of the holds need a bit of TLC. It seems most of the holds have not been removed & cleaned in a very long time so they are all very greasy, chalky and polished. This doesn't make for a great experience
There is also no form of temperature control system.(with the exception of a small open door) .. So in the summer in the mild heat the place felt like a melting pot and the higher you climb the hotter it gets.
The bouldering is below average with all the holds so dirty you can barely tell which colour set they belong to and the lighting is also dingy and doesn't help things. The mats are old and don't provide as much cushioning as would be expected.
The staff all seemed friendly , but the place just needs a big overhaul if it wants to have any chance competing with uprising or wanting to make people train here.
If you want to lead climb better just to go outside and don't waste...
