Swiss Deli — Local services in Howick

This place is lovely. Their products are wonderful and the place itself creates a Alp like atmosphere. For that I give them 5 Stars. When visiting yearly we order bulk items to take back to the USA as done this time around. We stopped while in the area to show my mother who resides in Auckland the deli. A lady; obiously the owner, openly stared at us from the moment we walked in. My children are biracial - white and Pacific Island born and raised in the USA. I have NEVER seen such blatant disgust displayed by a sales "professional" as was the case here. At first when my family voiced that she was watching to see if we were going to "shop lift" as they were part Polynesian I brushed them off saying that was absurd. After 3 of us sampled a cheese display (of which I purchased several items in the end) I finally realized after 7 minutes of browsing and leaving the store that she was indeed staring with disapproval and disgust as she followed us out. I did refrain from approaching her about her "unprofessional " behavior even after she leaned over to the sales assistant saying something that resulted in both of them turning and staring at my children again for a lengthy period of time. My mother, who is Caucasian, was absolutely mortified with this woman's behavior. In this day and age the fact that people, especially a Professional, can openly exude such racial dislike and profiling in a service area is incomprehensible to me. A word to Management. Be a little bit more PROFESSIONAL you might find you could open yourselves up to a whole new Avenue of customers that could boost your sales. We too are quite educated and can function normally in society too believe it or not. I personally however, will NEVER support the owner again. To me she is an embarrassment to the sales profession of which I am personally a part of. For customer service...... 1 star is FAR...

Very few samples! 3 sausage types and 2 cheeses - by the time we there all samples a bit dried and worse for wear.We asked lady at counter if we could try kabanos but no. We couldn't try any of the other meats! They advertise that customers can try products but that ISNT the case. VERY disappointing. My response to the owners - abd i DO appreciate your response! - on your website, in "Swiss Deli Store" link in menu, it says you can try the products. Also in the past customers could. Luckily we bought one of your products - kabanos - turned out to be lovely but we almost didn't due to not being able to try it. Best you edit your website. And IF you do provide samples, even a couple only, make sure they are fresh. The garlic salami was lovely as well as the pork sausages...

Thanks Swiss deli, prompt delivery, excellent packaging so the goods arrived in the south Island very fresh very well looked after 😀 One thing though....any chance of slicing the mortadela thinner? We found it too thick, the thinner the better thank you 😊, also I used to buy here in Christchurch the Lyoner in 1kg chubb any chance? Are your products sold in Christchurch?
