I have been a customer of Aussie butcher Botany regularly for the past few months and have enjoyed purchasing meats from them most of the time.
Unfortunately, on two occasions we have had to return meat that has been of poor freshness and quality.
Below are two steaks purchased today, stored in the same cabinet, from the same tray in store.
I understand oxidation however, the browning on the smaller steak was all the way through and it had an off smell.
I have often seen browning meat on their shelves, particularly mince or prepacked steaks that haven't sold.
The owner did replace the brown steak, however, was adamant that there was nothing wrong with it after sniffing it.
Best of all, the steak purchased by us two hours ago, photographed on our plate at home, missing some sinue which we cut off... was touched by the owners bare hands and placed back into the cabinet where it had came from, to be sold on to the next unsuspecting...

But last weekend i went to get my usual meat shop and i bought some sausage and a st louis pork rib. The sausage was dreadfully over-spiced beyond edible. The st louis pork ribs was off the day i bought it and defrosted it. Checked the date it was packed and it was packed on 1st May which has already passed 6 days but it was still selling at their fridge.
Called a store and lady didn’t even say sorry to me and kept telling me an excuse and their meats are all packed on the day and fresh which I don’t want to hear.
She asked me to bring back but it was for our dinner tonight and don’t want to waste my time and petrol going there again to just get $10 money back.
Lady has no idea how to treat unhappy customers. Please train your staff. I won’t visit...
