Due to inattention, we booked two muscle bikes (normally we would have wanted electric) for a ride from Arrowtown to Queenstown.
When we discovered our cars, out of fear, we asked our guide if the so-called intermediate and easy ride would be feasible with this type of bike. The guide confirmed to us that the path would undoubtedly be within our reach, which was not the case at all .
We are two "classic" athletes with good physical fitness. We were frustrated with having to give up after three hours and just got to the middle of the course, and then missing out on some pretty things to see . The path is difficult to achieve with this type of bike because there are many climbs (which seems logical in the end in mountainous terrain), we made a good stretch of walk, which was good because the saddle was not pleasant.
Forced to find that we would not arrive at the scheduled time, and that the difficulty would continue along the way, no we asked to be recovered. The shuttle costs 50 dollars more for two people .
From what we have seen, the landscapes are beautiful, but it is important to be well advised and to make the right choice in terms of rental equipment. In other circumstances, I am convinced that we would have had a...
Read moreGoing Blue has a number of rides around Queenstown that are well worth doing. We did two rides, Ride To Riches and the Ale Trail. The Ride to Riches ride was pretty much the most beautiful ride we’ve ever done. The Ale Trail was big fun and also beautiful (that’s an understatement). I recommend in the strongest terms to do all of the rides that they offer. Some comments: they use mountain bikes with 29” wheels. That took a little getting used to, but larger wheels are a necessity on the trails, which vary between hard pack, gravel, and occasional asphalt. The high quality bikes (Trek and Giant) are well maintained. The trails are pretty well marked, but pay attention to the signs. If you’re not an experienced gravel rider, it’s a good idea to hire an e-bike for a little extra oomph on the bumps. I would like to suggest that Going Blue offer a special 3 ride package to attract people to all the rides. The driver we had, Jake, was both professional and friendly. In summary, I highly, highly, recommend doing these rides. Going Blue provides a great service, and they have to...
Read moreWow...where to start. The experience - Queenstown has some phenomenal scenery to take in. I've been lucky enough to have had a number of trips down over the last 10 years, and I must say, there is one activity I do every time. That is, mountain biking Lake Wakitipu or Lake Hays via E-bike. I dont think there is a better way to take this scenery in other than on two wheels.
Now there are a number of e-bike operators in Queenstown, but heck look no further than Going Blue. Jay and his team are bloody fantastic. They are knowledgeable and friendly, and nothing seems like too big of an ask. Going Blue is by far the best operator I have come across in Queenstown, and I have tried pretty much all of them. Their bikes are the latest of E-bikes on the market, and were fantastic to ride.
So do make sure on your next trip to Queenstown, to not miss this one. Jay and his crew will make sure you are well looked after, and prepared for a day of fun taking in all that Queenstown has to offer. Jay - I'll be seeing you in a month and I'm bloody fizzing for it.
Many thanks...
