Salkantay Trek Machu Picchu — Local services in Santiago

I did the 5 day, 4 night Salkantay Trek up to Macchu Picchu with this company. It started out great, they meet you at your hotel the night before to go over the itinerary and prepare you for the hike. Their English as a little rough but enough to get by. They were even kind enough to allow us to leave a bag of things we would not need on the hike at their office and told us it would be delivered to our hotel after the hike. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we got to know him well and had a great time. Unfortunately the food was not very good. The cook who came with us did not have the best hygiene (we even found hair in our food one day) and the food he cooked was very overly salted. It was edible but not overly enjoyable and consequently we didn't eat much on the trip and bought our own food when we could. Then at the end of the tour we were told that a private taxi would take us to our hotel. The taxi was not private and the driver did not speak English. We ended up being dropped off in a square in the middle of the night and had to find our own way to our hotel. When we got there, our extra bags were not there as promised and we had to scramble and contact the agency as we were leaving Cusco that day. Luckily the bags were delivered shortly after that point. Overall I am very happy with the trip. I was impressed by the quality and proper organisation. Especially the cook (Amilcar), they made the difference that made the trip amazing, great food!. Edwin was a great guide, he gave clear information and was also great company, we had so much fun. It was great that when we arrived at the campsite that everything was ready for us, these guys work so hard to make, the trek fantastic for us....
