Sandton Skye (Room 313) COMPLAINT: The service we received from Sandton Skye was extremely disappointing and unacceptable. Incidents from the time we got there: I had requested something romantic as it was our wedding night, when we arrived at the room nothing was done. The toilet seat was completely broken and when you sat on the toilet, it moved out of place, making it very uncomfortable to utilize the toilet. The bathroom basin was blocked. The central heating system didn't work and the oil heater that was provided was so dirty with grime, and the wheels were broken off. The microwave was missing the glass tray/plate. Pillow cases were torn. The bathtub was so dirty that we couldn't use it after our wedding night. There were live wires that were next to the bed (from the lampshade on the pedestal).
Upon inspection, we notified the manager of Unit 313 and received false promises that an alternative room would be provided. She further noted that the room was reserved for us and we would be able to move to room when we returned to the hotel. However, when it came down to actually swap rooms, we were met with attitude and unprofessionalism and furthermore being screamed at. She accused us of liein as she noted that the cleaners inspected the room and found everything in order. We had asked her to rectify the faults and she noted that it cannot be fixed over the weekend. She further noted that we cannot get a refund as we wanted to book at another hotel immediately.
We then returned to the room and took photos of the faults and went down to the front desk, where the lady called Elizabeth again and she stated that we were liein again and that the photos were taken in the morning. We had proved that the photos were taken in the evening as I took a screenshot of the date/time stamp. These photos were also sent to her of which was, in essence, blatantly ignored. I did not receive a response even after following up with her.
I would not recommend anyone staying at this unit managed by a totallyunprofessional person. Staff at the building also noted that they have received numerous complaints which is never attended to. If you looking for a place to relax after any event or just want to get away, this is definitely not the place to book. The reception chairs and carpets are the first give away of what you will see in your room. If you’ve been at a proper place you will know what’s good and what’s not. It doesn’t look like they clean there.
We had booked room 313 and before arrival the host Sylvia sent me a private message telling me that I will be moved to room 602 and said it was an “upgrade”.
What we found at room 602 was shocking!!! The sheets were dirty, the pillows were disgustingly dirty, the headboard!!! No clean person will sleep there. There was a condom wrap and hair all over the bathroom. The shower was dirty. Nothing was good about the room.
We sent our host a message raising our concerns and sent her pictures detailing our experience and she asked the caretaker to move us another room being room 404 that room was worse! The walls were so dirty, the sheets dirty. That place is just dirty. We asked for a solution and the security who was at the reception called her on our behalf.
After getting hold of her she then moved us to room 1208. The room was better compared to the ones we’ve been to. Even though we were not happy we just settled with the room as we had no other options and just need a stay for the night.
My worst regret was not leaving an immediate review after checkout. The host made me seem like a difficult client simply for asking for the value I paid for and what I saw on the air bnb app.
She said my booking was last minute and it puzzles me because the room was available on the Airbnb app. No one forced her to accept the booking, everything was just done per the booking process.
The corridors are smelly and Aircons don’t work.

Read moreI booked to stay at Sandton skye and was excited based on the pictures I had seen, upon arrival to my room I got the biggest shock. The fitted sheet was turned inside out to hide the dirt the pillows were smeared in makeup. Furniture was broken, The curtains were filthy nothing in that room was clean, it had a horrible smell. I went down to the reception and the security lady called a lady by the name Sylvia, who then instructed the security lady to give me another room, so I was moved from 106 to room 1006 it was just as filthy if not worse. When I called this Sylvia lady she was extremely rude and started shouting at me, telling me to call my host who I didn't even know. I was sent from one individual to another with no resolve. Eventually I called some friends who picked me up and I put up at theirs, The next day I returned to ask for explanations as to why I paid so much for filthy rooms I was told all sorts of things I needed to do but an apology from another lady named Mphaho who was said to be my host.
