Virgin Active Gym Groenkloof — Local services in Gauteng

Safety is a major problem at virgin active groenkloof. On 31/01/2024 at 8pm my son parked his car in the parking area with 2 visible security guards on site. Where he parked his car one of the security guards was standing in front of him. At 9pm he came out of the gym and was surprised and shocked to see his car was vandalised. The bumper of the golf was ripped off and broken and lying on the floor. The headlights were ripped out of its sockets. All this was done within the hour that he spent inside the gym. All this occured while there were 2 visible security guards on site and when questioned they saw and heard nothing. How convenient and well planned. The matter was reported to management and nothing has been done to date to address the issue. I have communicated with management but they are ignoring the issue totally. They have not come back to me at all. My major cocern is the safety of members because tomorrow someone can get robbed or hijacked in the parking area which is supposed to be protected by 2 suspect...

Staff does not communicate with each other about contract they set up and sent me home after unexpectedly wanting to charge an amount of almost R2000 for 2 months. After setting up a contract including a special offer of these 2 months free training, VA Groenkloof suddenly put me in debt of about full 2 months fees. After explaining on several occasions that I had signed up with staff member Letz, who was in charge of the special offer contract, staff member Tietie completely denied access to the gym if not paying the R2000. Staff member Letz has explained himself being on sick leave on several occasions when wanting to talk to him about the contract and make the payment that was agreed upon. This is a rip off and absolutely unprofessional, VA. I am member of discovery vitality, which would further drop down fees to about R250. Staff could have simply communicated with each other to avoid sending a customer home. Not to mention other gym members wondering why I got access denied. I am disappointed and won't come back...

Ah, Virgin Active Groenkloof. How many times have I passed through your turnstile and wondered what suffering I will endure? Countless.

Yes, I have walked - sometimes stumbled - out at the end of it all and wondered why I put myself through all of this. And then I remember that if I want to eat those Krispy Kreme doughnuts this weekend, I can damn well do so because I work hard for this body. Well, hard-ish.

As for the gym itself - this is a review, after all - it’s a firm favourite of mine. The equipment is maintained, its clean and the air has the perfume of sweat and desperation, which I of course contribute to. And who could forget all of those personal trainer characters who are all so different and yet make for such a wonderful co-operative environment? We’re all in this together, young or old, gay or straight, fit or unfit - everyone’s welcome at Virgin Active Groenkloof. Or so the sign at the door says. I initially thought it was corny, but...
