Had a booked and paid for event at the Blue Crane, for which half the guests did not pitch. The proprietor offered to let me take the remaining five meals home as a take out, since they were not willing tongive a refund. Fair enough. When I enquired about this before getting ready to leave, they renegged on the offer. This was 5 meals @ R280 each. The food was good, but their terms of service needs work, and they will evidently try and extract as much as possible from the consumer with round-about arguments that are in contravention of the Consumer Protection Act. If anyone has a similar issue with them, be aware that Section 17(2) of the CPA stipulates that the consumer CAN cancel a booking/reservation at ANY TIME prior to the day booked or reserved in terms of the Act. The supplier is allowed to retain 'a reasonable amount of the deposit' upon cancellation, but since I did not cancel the event, costs for consumed meals should be billed from the deposit, and the remainder reimbursed as a refund. Alternatively, a takeaway should be allowed since the meals were paid for. There is no reason to deny the consumer goods they have paid for, ie ordering the rest of the meals and taking them home. What would have been an otherwise great experience was soured by sub-par customer service.

Edit:

I was under the impression that access closes at 15:00 and thatthe kitchen closes after final customer intake (as is common practice at most restaurants).

It was not stipulated that the kitchen closes at 15:00, nor was I reminded or prompted at any point to place the outstanding orders. Claiming such is disingenuous, and part of the reason that I take issue with your service, in addition to the way the matter was handled. I was given a voucher for one meal because 'you felt bad', but five meals remain outstanding at a total of R1400. When I enquired about the disparity, it was shrugged off. While it is appreciated, the drinks being taken off the total does not make up for the fact that the remainder of the meals adds up to a significant amount. It reads like a tactic to take advantage of the situation instead of doing what is obviously fair and right, which would be giving the customer what they paid for, and doing so with the kind of service and integrity one would expect when providing a service based in care and concern for the customer. Sadly, I did not experience that kind of care, but rather felt exploited. It remains that you could have chosen to handle the situation any other way, but...

Went to a function last night with a formal dinner and woke up the next day feeling very ill. Several of my friends also reported feeling very sick. 0/5 not at all impressed. Some people have major health setbacks with food poisoning. I was not the only one experiencing food poisoning. Very few people consumed alcohol that night. The fact that we are students does not mean that we drink ourselves to oblivion. That assumption is incorrect and it is clearly gaslighting, blaming all the students that were at that function. I have a serious autoimmune disease that prohibits me from drinking alcohol. Many students drove themselves and cannot have consumed the alcohol there. I have lawyers on my side and I will not take down my review. Accusing people of drunkedness should not be taken lightly and is a very serious allegation. Eating takwaway beforehand has nothing to do with food poisioning; the allegations that people were drunk are very serious as they could not have possibly driven themselves back while drunk. I have lawyers. I know my rights and I am not intimidated by any owner that is trying to scare me into taking down my review which is what actually happened. There are multiple people at the function that can...

Perfect venue for end year celebrations! All they promise is delivered and more. The menu choces are catering for everyone, and the price more than reasonable. We had "skaap on spit" it was tender en juicy. Steak in a wine souce, again delicious. The chicken curry was a favourite, served with Jasmine rice. The pumpkin dish, had everyone talking, with sweet patato that melts in the mouth (we want the recipe) Corn in the cob, sweet and tender Salad with Feta and watermelon, odd but stunning. The deserts, and for some reason the custard was better that it should be....choclate brownies, and fresh fruit. Small " vetkoekies" that dissapeared fast. Out waiters were on the ball, catering to everyone fast and with a smile. Then there is the setting and view...you forget you are in the heart of Pretoria, tranquil, quiet, clean. The venue is big enough for to cater for 40+ people without being uncomfortable. Bug tumbs up to yet again a hugely...

Lovely resturant with an African theme and surrounded by nature. You can sit outside close to their dam, or inside in the restaurant or at the bar upstairs, fitting for whatever the mood or weather. It was chilly outside so the waiter gave us a table right by the fireplace which was wonderful. In the day you can sit outside or see some of the wildlife they have on the property. They have a short menu but it is filled with top class cuisine. We ordered starters and catch of the day and venison of the day, combination of Springbok Carpaccio, Snoek parcels, Kudu Fillet and Kingklip; and it was delicious! The chef pairs the meat and vegetables very well. You then have a choice of starch to accompany. The service was brilliant and I would highly recommend it. The atmosphere is cosy and comfortable, with an accompaniment of classical music playing softly in the background. We felt well taken care of for the duration of our visit from arrival to leaving.

What should have been a memorable 71st birthday gathering of friends turned out very disappointing. The waiter was very professional and friendly and the atmosphere was perfect but the manager was rude, disrespectful and unaccommodating. We wanted to order breakfast as it was still supposed to be served by the time we ordered but we were told that we could no longer order even though there was still an hour to spare. All of the food was fabulous and very well presented but the baby chicken was undercooked. The birthday lady had a tiny cake that she wanted to cut it but was told that they would charge us R30 X 19 people = R540 for her own tiny cake. We were all going to order our own dessert, but after this revelation we decided that we will not cut the cake and we will not order dessert either. Your manager spoiled the mood and because of this we will not recommend any gatherings or functions at this restaurant.
