The Bioscope Independent Cinema — Local services in Johannesburg Ward 60

I always enjoy the bioscope because of the movies that they show, but, in an attempt to be different or quirky, they have rows of old car seats for their customers to sit in. The question I ask myself is why they never chose old leather comfortable seats from the scrap yard where they obviously picked them up. It might have cost just a little more but aesthetically and comfort wise they'd make the world of difference and even 34 year old leather seats cannot cost too much. The seats in there are cracked and perished as vinyl plastic seats get after being around for maybe three decades, exposure to the sun and then being used over and over by film goers. They look disgusting , you're sitting on torn plastic and dirty sponge that is the next layer down. It must be impossible to effectively clean these grubby...

It gives you a nostalgic effect of what it was being in a bioscope, with the decor and accessories being part of it. The service is friendly and helpful. It is not a one stop destination and will be complimented by sitting under the lovely trees and tables with a variety of places do join for a meal or a drink or just a morning coffee. There is enough parking at Stanly (off street), but the car guards can be a nuisance and aggressive. The whole of Stanley 44 is a non smoking zone, which is a pleasure sitting under the lovely trees, next to small man...

Quaint and quirky - loved it! I was about to book tickets for the Bob Dylan movie at one of the tried and tested places when I saw that it was showing at the Bioscope. Having wanted to try out the Bioscope for a while we decided to go there. So glad we did! It is the kind of quaint and quirky places that we like. But so much more! From the warm welcome, the relaxed atmosphere, the interesting decor, the comfy seats with so much legroom and the friendly banter among the moviegoers (my Rodriguez t-shirt attracted some attention) to the delicious food and seriously good coffee it was a most enjoyable evening!
